Localities actively overcome damage after storm No. 2

(Baonghean.vn) - Storm No. 2 has severely damaged many buildings, houses, and trees in Nghe An. The government and people are making efforts to repair the damage.

*In Thai Hoa Town,100% of high and low voltage power lines were affected, causing power outages. Of these, 4 electric poles were knocked down; 1 lighting pole at Hieu bridge was knocked down.

The measured rainfall was 106ml; the wind gusted at level 8 and 9. Heavy rain and strong winds caused many trees on inner-city roads to fall down. The strong winds also caused 4 households to have their roofs blown off; 1 house had its roof blown off and 1 factory was damaged.

Currently, 100 hectares of rice are flooded; 35 hectares of sugarcane are broken; 6 hectares of corn are fallen. Along with that, thousands of rubber trees are also broken due to the storm.

Immediately after the storm, sectors and localities in Thai Hoa focused on recovery. By 12:30 on July 17, about 50% of the area had electricity restored. The town continued to deploy timely response plans to minimize human and property damage caused by the storm.

* Nghia Dan damage due to storm No. 2 is estimated at about 1.6 billion VND

Due to the impact of storm No. 2, in Nghia Dan district, 193 houses had their roofs blown off, 1,000m of fence collapsed, 95 electric poles fell down. The area of ​​​​season rice in the fields, low-lying areas and streams that was flooded and collapsed was: 100 hectares. Corn and vegetables were flooded and collapsed: 250 hectares. Fruit trees were broken: 100 hectares. Banana trees were broken: 50 hectares. Sugarcane was broken: 2,000 hectares. Forest trees were broken: 300 hectares.

Two dams had their dykes eroded 7-10 meters deep, namely Khe Giang dam and Danh 9 dam (Nghia Loc commune); 5 hectares of aquaculture ponds overflowed, causing loss of aquatic products for local people.

Estimated damage caused by storm No. 2 in Nghia Dan area is about 1.6 billion VND.

Immediately after the storm passed, Nghia Dan district authorities sent delegations to direct the recovery of storm consequences in localities and mobilized forces to join the people in overcoming the consequences of the storm.

*According to the data reported by the Flood and Storm Prevention CommitteeDo Luong districtBy 10am on July 17, storm No. 2 had flooded 200 hectares of summer-autumn rice and knocked down 120 hectares of corn. Nearly 1,000 trees and nearly 200 hectares of forestry trees were broken.

Storm No. 2 brought strong winds that broke 250 electric poles, causing the entire power system of Do Luong to be cut off. The storm also blew off and collapsed the roofs of 465 houses and a number of schools.

Currently, Do Luong district is focusing on directing the recovery of post-storm consequences to stabilize people's lives. The district's storm and flood prevention committee has established teams to go directly to the grassroots level, and at the same time mobilized military, police, and youth volunteers to focus on clearing fallen trees, overcoming power outages, and supporting people in repairing their houses.

By 2:00 p.m. the same day, some communes and agencies had electricity, and basically all roads were open to traffic.

*Due to the influence of storm No. 2, along both sides of Piec streamMuong Phu and Thong Thu communes (Que Phong)The landslide seriously affected 10 households, some of which were at risk of being swept away. In that situation, the Militia, Border Guard, and Commune Police came to help people move their belongings and evacuate to a safe place.

Mr. Luong Thai Quy - Chairman of Dong Van Commune People's Committee said: Last night, floodwaters in Nam Hat stream rose, the commune directed households to evacuate immediately. In the immediate future, many rice fields and ponds of the people were flooded, and Dong Van 2 Primary School's roof was blown off.

Inspecting the resettlement sites of Hua Na hydropower plant, Mr. Lu Dinh Thi - Secretary of Que Phong District Party Committee requested the authorities of the communes to send forces to support people in transporting their belongings to a safe place. Assign people to be on duty at river wharves, streams, and lake beds, absolutely not allowing people to go fishing or cross rivers and streams.

Mr. Lu Dinh Thi said: "The district has postponed the 3rd session of the 17th District People's Council to focus on directing the work of overcoming the consequences, as well as being ready to proactively respond if there is a storm circulation that affects the area."

* Quy Hop DistrictModerate to heavy rains accompanied by strong winds and storms have damaged some property and crops of the people. According to statistics from the Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention of Quy Hop district, in the whole district, there was 1 house completely collapsed in Ha Son commune due to an uprooted tree falling on it. Fortunately, there were no human casualties.

Nine other houses had their roofs blown off and damaged, 50 hectares of summer-autumn rice were flooded, 70 hectares of crops and sugarcane were flooded and collapsed, four temporary bridges across the river in Chau Cuong, Tam Hop, and Tho Hop communes were swept away by floodwaters, many rubber trees and trees were uprooted and broken by the wind, and many ponds and lakes were flooded.

Currently, the situation is still going on in Quy Hop area, water from upstream continues to flow, causing streams to rise and flow rapidly. District leaders have established many delegations to inspect the situation, direct localities to mobilize households at risk of landslides to continue to evacuate from dangerous areas, and encourage families whose houses have collapsed or roofs have been blown off to overcome the consequences and soon stabilize their lives.

* Initial statistics of Thanh Chuong District People's Committee,Storm No. 2 blew off the roofs of 285 houses, toppled 167 electric poles, and 11 radio poles. It flooded 76 hectares of summer-autumn rice, 393 hectares of corn, beans, and peas, 70 hectares of cassava, broke nearly 30,000 forestry and fruit trees, and broke 205 hectares of hybrid acacia. It flooded 22.4 hectares of aquaculture, killing 102 livestock and over 2,000 poultry.

Immediately after the storm on July 17, district leaders and functional agencies directly went to the grassroots to urge people to overcome the situation and soon stabilize their lives.

* The whole Nghi Loc district630 households were affected; of which 37 households had their roofs blown off; 451 electric poles were broken and fell, causing widespread power outages; Nearly 50,000 trees in the area were knocked down; 6 km of canals collapsed. Many other traffic and irrigation works were severely damaged. In the district alone, nearly 673 hectares of crops were damaged and 8 hectares of aquaculture were flooded.

More than 7,000 stainless steel water tanks of Son Ha Company Ltd. were blown by the wind onto National Highway 1A, Provincial Road 536, on the mountains and into surrounding lakes and ponds because they were not secured.

As soon as the storm passed, Nghi Loc district leaders directly went to the grassroots to inspect and direct localities to overcome the consequences. Mobilizing all people to participate in repairing works, cutting tree branches to clear roads, repairing houses, cleaning the environment in flooded areas, preventing possible epidemics for people and livestock. Implementing measures to restore agricultural production, business, services after storms and floods and relief work to soon stabilize people's lives.

* Quick report from Nghe An Department of TransportAfter storm No. 2, many traffic routes were eroded with over 18,000 m3 of mud and soil. Specifically, Highway 48, 160 km long from Yen Ly to Que Phong, had 5 landslides. For example, at Km117+650 (in Tien Phong commune, Que Phong district), the positive slope landslide filled the longitudinal ditch, 10 m long; 5 m wide; average thickness 1.5 m. At Km120+100, Tien Phong commune, Que Phong district, the positive slope landslide filled the foundation; the longitudinal ditch was 7 m long; 9 m wide; average height 0.4 m. The estimated landslide was 2,500 m3.

The most seriously damaged is National Highway 16 (the western Nghe An road) which is more than 200 km long, connecting Thanh Hoa province through Tuong Duong, Ky Son and Que Phong districts; there are more than 11 landslide locations with over 5,000 m3 of rock. For example, at km305+600 on the left side of the route (in Nhon Mai commune, Tuong Duong district), the landslide is 40 m long, 3 m wide and 3 m high. Provincial Road 532 has 4 landslide locations on the route with an estimated volume of about 8,000 m3.

There are currently 7 flooded locations, such as National Highway 48E, spillway Km59+950 (in Nghia Binh commune, Nghia Dan district) flooded 0.7m. Song Sao spillway Km61+800 (in Nghia Binh commune, Nghia Dan district) flooded 2.7m, spillway Km39+400 (Quynh Thang commune, Quynh Luu district) flooded 0.4m. Tinh Road 534B, Khe Than spillway Km19+100 (Tien Ky commune, Tan Ky district) flooded 0.8m, Khe Trang spillway Km26+900 (Tho Son commune, Anh Son district) flooded 0.4cm. Total estimated damage is over 53 billion VND. Currently, the Department of Transport is coordinating with localities to promptly overcome the consequences caused by storms and floods.

The Department has directed 7 traffic management units to coordinate with localities to promptly overcome the consequences caused by storms and rains. Specifically, mobilize machinery and equipment to quickly overcome landslides to ensure traffic safety. At flooded locations, management units have coordinated with local authorities and traffic inspection forces to organize guard duty and traffic flow to ensure traffic safety.
