Nghe An schools speed up completion of facilities before new school year
(Baonghean.vn) - Ensuring enough schools and classrooms is an important task for localities and schools before each new school year. In Nghe An, in the context of large-scale schools, widespread areas, and rapidly increasing student numbers each year, the construction of schools and classrooms must receive more investment and attention.
New school for new school year
These days, the final items of the 20-story building of Ma Thanh Secondary School (Yen Thanh) are being completed. The spacious, modern school with a total value of more than 10 billion VND is the effort of the local government, the support of the people in the commune and the call for socialization. New school, new classes, Ma Thanh Secondary School is also gradually reaching the finish line to soon be recognized as a national standard school this school year.
With more high-rise buildings, the problem is more difficultmissing classThe school's shortage of classrooms has also been basically resolved when this year the school added one more class compared to the previous school year. Immediately after the new school was completed and put into use, the school also had a plan to call for socialization and purchase more equipment to serve teaching and learning to meet the requirements of the new General Education Program.

Teacher Nguyen Huu Duc - Principal of the school said: Ma Thanh Secondary School is one of the schools with the largest number of students in Yen Thanh district and the demand for classrooms is very high, not only this year but also in the coming years. Therefore, from now on, we have advised the government to invest in facilities and teaching equipment to meet the demand for classrooms for students.
Yen Thanh district has 118 schools at all four levels with more than 74,000 students. Entering the 2023-2024 school year, the number of students in the area increased rapidly with 38 classes and more than 1,700 students. This puts considerable pressure on preparing facilities for schools.
Speaking more about this, Mr. Le Dinh Can - Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Training of Yen Thanh district said: Before the new school year, the Department of Education has directed schools to review and supplement facilities, especially classrooms and functional rooms. Currently, there are 19 schools under construction and it is expected that 222 new classrooms will be put into use.
The new school year has brought joy to teachers and students of Thanh Lien Primary School (Thanh Chuong) as the school has just completed the assessment to be recognized as a national standard school level 2 and achieved quality accreditation level 3. The new school has a total value of nearly 17 billion VND with 3 high-rise buildings, enough classrooms and functional rooms, and is one of the new, spacious schools in Thanh Chuong district today.
Four years ago, Thanh Lien Primary School was still an old, dilapidated and makeshift secondary school. Meanwhile, the project to build a new school, although approved in 2012, has been on hold for many years. Due to the difficult teaching and learning conditions, in recent times, despite the local budget being difficult, Thanh Chuong district has still prioritized investment in school facilities.

With the advantage of a campus of more than 11,000m2, in the coming time, the school is continuing to ask for capital to invest in building an artificial turf field and completing the entire landscape. Principal Nguyen Xuan Quang added: A spacious and beautiful school has been the dream of the local government and people for many years. Therefore, being recognized as a standard school is the basis and motivation for the school to strive to compete in teaching well, learning well, and improving the quality of education.
In this school year alone, Thanh Chuong district has mobilized nearly 125 billion VND to build 59 new cultural classrooms, 84 other classrooms, 15 sanitary facilities and auxiliary facilities for schools. In addition, socialization and sponsorship activities have been implemented flexibly and effectively. Thereby, schools have called for more than 20 billion VND, of which over 8 billion VND has been allocated to build new buildings, repair facilities and purchase teaching equipment.
Thanh Chuong district is a large area with many mountainous communes, so the construction of school facilities is difficult. However, thanks to the efforts of the local government, up to now, the basic school facilities have been ensured, 78% of schools have been recognized as standard or re-evaluated as standard schools. Compared to the plan of the district Party Congress, we have reached the target of more than 90%.
Pressure on facilities for the new school year
Entering the new school year, Nghe An Education sector faced many difficulties when the number of students increased dramatically to more than 26,000 students, equivalent to 540 classrooms. This also means that the demand for schools and classrooms increased much more than the previous school year.
Vinh City is a locality that is under a lot of pressure on schools when it increased by 3,100 students with 73 classes. Because of the sudden increase in the number of students, the class size increased, so 5 schools changed their rank from 2nd to 1st, namely Quan Bau Secondary School, Hung Binh Secondary School, Trung Do Secondary School, Nguyen Truong To Secondary School and Nghi Phu Secondary School. At Hung Binh Secondary School, this school year the school increased to 6 classes, while the facilities were not newly built.

The pressure on the school and classes is so high that the school has to convert the functional rooms into new classrooms to have enough classrooms for the new school year. Teacher Le Thi Thu Yen - Principal of the school added: In addition to removing the traditional rooms and the Art room to prioritize classrooms, we will also consolidate working rooms such as the treasury room and the medical room to prioritize classrooms for students.
In Vinh city, Hung Loc Primary School is currently the only school with 2 campuses, of which the second campus was newly built and put into operation 2 years ago. Considered a school with modern facilities, this school year the school is short of classes and is expected to be short of even more in the coming years.
Teacher Nguyen Thi Hien - Principal said: This school year, campus 2 is short of 1 class and we are forced to convert the science and technology room into a classroom. If next year, phase 2 of the project is not implemented in time, the number of classrooms missing will be even greater.

Faced with the rapidly increasing number of students, many schools in Vinh City have continued to build more classrooms before the new school year. However, this number can only meet the demand in the short term and the demand in the coming years will continue to increase.
For example, at Truong Thi Primary School, the project to build a new school in phase 1 has been completed with 18 new classrooms. However, to meet the needs of students, the school still has to use 20 classrooms in the old facility. In the next few months, when the school continues to implement phase 2, the school may have to return to the situation of borrowing or renting classrooms, and students will have to make up for lost time on Saturdays as in previous years.
Since 2020, Quynh Luu district has also developed a project to focus on investing in school facilities and equipment to meet the conditions for implementing the new teaching program. In the past two years, the district has built 419 classrooms but still cannot meet the demand. Meanwhile, the revenue of communes in the area is increasingly difficult, so the progress of building facilities in some schools is still slow, the consulting work on designing and planning for school construction is still lacking in synchronization, and some schools are still stuck in site clearance.

Up to now, although schools have tried to arrange enough classrooms for students, teaching conditions are still not guaranteed. Currently, at preschool level, the number of solid classrooms is only 78.3%; at primary level, it is 97.2%, at secondary level, it is 92.7%, at high school level, it is 96% and at vocational education level, it is only 89.2%. The whole province still has 996 separate schools. Therefore, in the coming time, ensuring financial resources to invest in facilities and teaching equipment is extremely important.
The sector will vigorously implement mechanisms and policies to ensure resources for education in the area, making the most of funding sources to ensure the implementation of plans and projects issued by the People's Committee. Making the most of resources from National Target Programs allocated to localities in prioritizing education development.
In addition, the sector will coordinate with local authorities at all levels to prepare additional facilities and minimum teaching equipment, ensuring the requirements of the new school year with an increase in the number of students at all levels and the task of building schools that meet national standards. Mobilizing the strength of the political system and the support of parents in the work of mobilizing socialized education to ensure public, transparent, voluntary processes and procedures and effective management and use for the right purposes...
