Sympathy for the 70-year-old woman who raised 5 orphaned grandchildren alone
(Baonghean.vn) - "The dry yellow leaves cry for the falling green leaves" is the difficult situation of old lady Chu Thi Nga in hamlet 11, Nghi Phu commune, Vinh city, when her 4 daughters-in-law passed away one after another, leaving behind 2 grandchildren and 3 grandchildren, the youngest of whom is only three years old, to be taken care of by her alone.
We visited the small house of Mrs. Chu Thi Nga's family on a hot summer day. In the cramped, hot house where Mrs. Nga lives with her five grandchildren, the old woman was sadly rocking her three-year-old grandchild, who was crying for her mother. The child's mother was Mrs. Nga's eldest daughter, who had passed away nearly 20 days ago.

Mrs. Nga's family has three children, Ms. Thuy is the eldest daughter, followed by two sons. Ms. Thuy and her husband have three children, the eldest daughter has finished 10th grade, the second child has finished 7th grade and the youngest son is only 3 years old this year.
To take care of their children, the couple had to go abroad to work all kinds of jobs, hoping to earn money to cover their living expenses and send their children to school. While working in Hai Phong, Thuy's husband had a work accident and died.
Upon hearing the bad news, Ms. Thuy almost collapsed. However, for the sake of her children, she continued to work as a construction worker everywhere to earn money to send her children to school.
Seeing her children healthy and well-behaved, she felt like she was given more strength to try to rise up in life. Then, disaster struck again... While working for hire in Lang Son, Ms. Thuy unfortunately slipped and fell into the river and was swept away. Her family's circumstances were so difficult, her relatives had to run around and borrow money to hire people to salvage them. After 2 days, the body was found and brought back to her hometown for burial.

Three children, both parents dead, now have to rely on their grandmother who is over 70. Photo: Thu Huong |
Ms. Thuy passed away, leaving no breadwinner to care for her children. The family, already in financial difficulty, was now in even more dire straits. The three poor children, orphaned by both parents, the youngest only three years old, had to rely on their grandmother who was over 70.
As for Mrs. Nga's family, her second son and his wife also died early, leaving behind two small children. Her youngest son was sickly and his family was poor, and he could not help her much. So at the age of seventy, with dim eyes and slow legs, she now had to shoulder the responsibility of raising three grandchildren and two orphaned grandchildren.
Now, Mrs. Nga and her five grandchildren can only live on her meager worker's pension. Understanding her family's situation, the neighbors sympathize and help Mrs. Nga raise her grandchildren.
