On the afternoon of October 16, Quang Tri Police said they had directed the verification of the case of Mr. Hoang Duc Cuong (Chief of Office of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation) receiving text messages threatening his life and demanding ransom.
According to the report, at 8:46 p.m. on October 15, Mr. Cuong received a text message saying that "someone wanted to kill him for 100 million VND." The texter also demanded ransom to provide the identity of the perpetrator and evidence.
"I feel uneasy when receiving messages even though I don't have any grudges or owe anyone money," said Mr. Cuong.
According to authorities, not only Mr. Cuong, but also 5 leaders of the National Assembly Office in the provinces of Quang Binh, Thua Thien Hue, Ha Tinh, Quang Nam, and Bac Giang also received text messages with the same content, phone numbers, and accounts asking for money.
