Poor guy tried hard for 10 years to build a career to marry a rich girl
Even though his girlfriend's brother came to his house to stop him and threatened to beat him, the young man from Ninh Thuan still worked hard and remained steadfast in his love.
After 9 years and 10 months together, Anh Thinh and Ly Kieu are preparing for their wedding this coming June. Although they are about to become a family, the young couple born in the 90s said that sometimes they cannot believe this is true after nearly a decade of love with so many ups and downs.
Thinh and Kieu met each other when they were still in school. Back then, just entering 10th grade, Thinh was impressed by a girl with pretty short hair, dressed in a unique way in the opposite class so he tried to get to know her. Luckily, Thinh's class had a close friend of Kieu's so he immediately asked for help. After 3 months of diligently being the "tail", caring, asking and taking care of her, Kieu agreed to date the guy with a "fragile" figure.
The young couple had been in love for 2 years when Kieu's family found out and strongly opposed. "Kieu's parents didn't want to let them date because they were still in school. My family was poor while hers was a very wealthy Chinese family. I was also self-conscious, but my love for Kieu was greater than anything, so even though it was forbidden, we still secretly went out together," Thinh recounted.

The poor boy conquered the rich girl thanks to his efforts in work and life. |
After graduating from high school, they both went to Saigon to study a trade. Thinh studied design and stayed with a group of friends in Go Vap, while Kieu studied at a hair salon in Tan Phu. Living far apart, busy with studying and working, the two young people often had conflicts, quarrels, and broke up many times.
"I remember the time I asked to break up with Thinh. That night, he came to my place, printed a stack of papers with the words: 'Lau Mui (my nickname at home), please forgive me', and then stuck the papers on the walls along the street where I was staying. The next morning, when I saw it at work, I was extremely touched. Everyone in the neighborhood knew about it and teased me and said I had a thoughtful boyfriend," Kieu shared about the memorable memories with her lover.
At that time, Kieu and Thinh had been in love for more than 3 years but her family still firmly opposed. Her brother had come to threaten Thinh, even threatened to beat him.No matter how many times she was scolded by her parents and siblings, the girl's love for Thinh remained unchanged. The young couple continued their love, which grew stronger and stronger. Memories of the days when they were broke, eating instant noodles for the whole month, borrowing a few thousand from each other to buy a gas tank... made their love even stronger.
After living in Saigon for 3 years, finding life too difficult, the young couple decided to return to their hometown to start a business in 2011. Having experience working part-time at a fashion store, Thinh and Kieu came up with the idea of selling clothes. With no capital, Thinh had to sell his motorbike for daily commuting, and Kieu sold all his jewelry. The two of them saved up 12 million in total, then brought the goods from Saigon to Phan Rang to sell.

Because they had no money to rent a shop, the two rented a space on the sidewalk. "At first, Kieu was very shy about selling on the street because she had never suffered like that, but because of love and the future, Kieu gradually overcame her shyness and was not afraid of the sun or rain to sit and sell. The rented place was about 5 km from my house, so every day the two of us borrowed my father's old motorbike to carry the goods to the city center. It was hard and miserable, and sometimes we had to borrow money to get the goods. Luckily, God was kind to us, so our shop was very crowded. It took us about half a year to rent a small shop, which was less hot and tiring," Thinh recalled the early days of starting a business.
When he first returned to his hometown, Kieu did not go home but stayed at Thinh's house with his lover's parents. Thanks to his friendly, obedient and agile personality, Kieu was loved and cared for by Thinh's family like their own child. Meanwhile,Kieu's parents still thought their daughter was in Saigon. Later they found out that she was selling goods with Thinh nearly 20 km from home but they no longer forbade it.
When they opened a small shop, the young couple decided to go to China and Thailand to get goods to diversify their designs at cheaper prices. Not knowing a foreign language, having no experience, Kieu and Thinh still groped their way, lost countless times, walked until their legs were sore, and carried heavy loads to get nice clothes at good prices.
Thinh recalled: "Every time we went to get goods, we were both very tired but always encouraged each other. Seeing Kieu tired and thin, I felt even more sorry for her because she had sacrificed a lot to follow me. I thought I had to try hard, I had to succeed so that Kieu's family would recognize me, prove to everyone that I could make money and give my lover a full and happy life."
Thinh and Kieu's efforts were rewarded when their small shop became increasingly crowded with customers. Not long after, they rented a larger store, freely displaying their products, and their income increased day by day.
When he was confident with his success, Thinh went to meet Kieu's parents to officially talk. Knowing that the two had loved each other for a long time and had opened a big store together, Kieu's family understood Thinh's love and will, so they agreed and did not forbid it anymore.

Their love life was going well, they didn't have to worry about finances, and the young couple had more time for themselves. During the 2014 Lunar New Year, they traveled together from Ninh Thuan to the North by train for more than a month. At each stop, they stopped to rent a motorbike to explore together. On Valentine's Day last year, they decided to challenge themselves by cycling to Da Lat.This February, the couple went to Hanoi to take wedding photos because they wanted to have beautiful photos in the capital.
After a long time together with many challenges, Kieu said that Thinh's love is the motivation that makes her stronger. "Mr. Thinh is a man with a lot of courage, will, responsibility and affection," Kieu said about her future husband with all the pride.
On his personal page, Thinh also wrote to his girlfriend with so much sweetness: "We have been in love for 9 months and 10 days, cTogether we overcame so many difficulties, when we went to Saigon to work, rented a room, sometimes we only had 7 thousand to change for mini gas, money for groceries depended on my tips for doing nails, washing hair... Then together we started a business, earned money in Phan Rang, our hometown, went backpacking together, went to get goods together even though we didn't know the language...
How many pages would it take to tell the story of us?The road ahead is still long, we still have to buy a house, drive our children across Vietnam. Let's stay together and be together forever, okay?
