If trade with Russia is terminated, Ukraine cannot become a member of the EU, because "Europe does not need a Ukraine without Russia," Rusla Bortnik, director of the Institute for Policy Analysis and Management of Ukraine, said on the NewsOne TV channel.

"The EU does not need Ukraine as a trade impasse and as a conflict zone with Russia. Europe wants to see us as a transit zone, as a trading platform between Europe and Russia. We must understand this. Europe does not need an isolated Ukraine, because it would be an economically costly and politically and militarily dangerous object," the expert explained.

He stressed that in order to integrate into Europe, Kiev will in any case have to improve relations with Moscow. Moreover, according to the political analyst, Ukraine's efforts to end trade with Russia are only relevant to the opponents of the Kiev government.

“So the machine building industry is destroyed, but there are no problems with food trade, so we continue to transit Russian energy resources as usual, but there are problems with book printing. This concerns business competitors,” he concluded.
