(Baonghean.vn) - Yen Lac village, Thanh Ngoc commune (Thanh Chuong) is a rural area that still preserves many traditional beauties, including the ancient ebony tree, hundreds of years old, on the banks of Rao Gang river.
Locals call the ebony tree the drifting tree. According to the elders, the Yen Ha drifting tree (Yen Ha hamlet) is over 300 years old, a testament to the many changes and ups and downs of the ancient Yen Lac village. |
The tree is about 25m high, spreading its shade next to the river wharf, in front of the Yen Ha hamlet cultural house. The circumference of the tree, at its largest point, is 12m. |
From ancient times until now, the floating tree is a place where villagers gather and have fun. |
On the tree trunk, in the bumpy and rough places, children can climb, lie and sit freely. |
The elders often tell the villagers many touching historical stories associated with the driftwood tree. During the Nghe Tinh Soviet years, on this driftwood tree, the red hammer and sickle flag flew, calling and encouraging the villagers to join the revolution. Next to the driftwood tree at that time, there was also a guard post of the red militia when the District and Provincial Party Committees came here to operate. |
During the war against the US, the area where the tree was planted was bombed by US planes. Two bombs fell near the tree, one penetrated into the ground, the other exploded, digging a large hole and breaking many branches of the tree. Over the past few decades, the bomb crater has been filled in by the locals, but the wounds on the tree trunk are still there. |
The remaining branches still grow green and lush, surrounded by mistletoe. |
Under the driftwood tree, there are bumps and buttresses protruding with many strange shapes. |
Nearly a dozen young men and women still had their arms wrapped around the tree trunk. |
After hundreds of years of history, Yen Ha driftwood is still green, a symbol of the indomitable spirit, strong vitality and pride of Yen Lac people. |
