This morning, October 30, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the Government held its regular meeting for October 2020, discussing the socio-economic development situation over the past 10 months, including overcoming the consequences of the pandemic.storm and flood in central regionSpeaking at the opening of the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc pointed out the fact that in October, the country continuously experienced storm after storm, flood after flood, causing great damage to people's lives and property.

"According to statistics, 230 people have died or sacrificed, including many cadres and officers of the People's Army and the People's Police on duty. In particular, two generals sacrificed in Thua Thien Hue, and a colonel-level officer sacrificed in Quang Tri. Up to now, many people in the sea and mountains have been buried and have not been found. This is a year of extremely severe natural disasters for our country and for the people of the Central region," the Prime Minister said before observing a moment of silence with members of the Government.

Government members observed a minute of silence for the victims of storms and floods.

Faced with continuous storms and floods, especially storm No. 9, the strongest storm in the past 20 years, the Prime Minister said that the Government has promptly directed military forces, police, local forces, and localities to actively, proactively, and responsibly participate in evacuating people as well as conducting rescue operations. The Prime Minister highly appreciated the forces and localities that have overcome difficulties to complete urgent tasks, protecting the lives and property of the people and the country. According to statistics, before storm No. 9 made landfall, 1.3 million people had been evacuated to safe places, helping to significantly reduce damage.

During the storms and floods, the Prime Minister said that the Party and the State have promptly supported the people of the Central provinces. At the same time, in the difficulties, we have seen the good tradition of "the healthy leaves cover the torn leaves" of our nation being promoted, the whole country joining hands and hearts towards the Central region. In particular, the more difficult the situation, the more our nation's tradition of solidarity and determination to overcome difficulties is promoted to move the country forward.

In this time of “boiling water, burning fire”, the Prime Minister requested functional forces and localities to continue to carry out rescue work for victims missing due to landslides in Quang Nam, at Rao Trang 3 Hydropower Plant in Thua Thien Hue province; continue to urgently search for missing people in the sea areas of Binh Dinh and Khanh Hoa.

Along with that, ministries and branches strictly implement the Prime Minister's direction to soon bring people's lives back to normal. In particular, it is necessary to quickly provide material support to people according to regulations; ensure smooth traffic; prevent epidemics that may occur after floods, especially cholera, seasonal flu..., to prevent Covid-19 from returning; support books and learning equipment so that students can return to school soon...

The Prime Minister also requested the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, ministries and branches to promptly synthesize and propose state support for localities that have suffered heavy damage so that the Government and the Prime Minister can make early decisions, including support for production, social security, and livelihoods for people after floods and storms. Support for vegetable and rice varieties for production; support for food so that no one goes hungry. Especially, prepare supplies and materials in places so that the prices of corrugated iron, packaging, cement, etc. are not pushed up.

The Prime Minister also said that they had discussed and agreed to support people whose houses had collapsed or were severely damaged with a necessary amount of money and the number of houses should not exceed 150,000. The Government has recently decided to allocate 100 billion VND in support for each of the 5 Central provinces and relevant ministries to implement it. The head of the Government also requested banks to postpone, extend, and reduce debts according to the law for disaster areas. The Ministry of Industry and Trade ensures prices and electricity services as soon as possible. Not only the localities affected by storms and floods have launched the program "the healthy leaves cover the torn leaves", "the less torn leaves cover the more torn leaves", but the whole country needs support so that people's production can return to normal.

“Production is the foundation for people to have income right after the storm and flood. Therefore, to show the love and mutual affection of the people of the North and South towards the people of the Central region, we must increase production, work double, triple, more resolutely, to compensate for the loss of the people of the Central region” - the Prime Minister emphasized./.
