Japan's state of emergency is set to expire in a week, but the government has yet to decide whether it will end.

The state of emergency was initially declared in seven prefectures in Japan, including Tokyo and Osaka. It was later expanded to cover the entire country as the outbreak continued to spread. The state of emergency is set to expire on May 6, but the Japanese government has yet to decide whether to extend it.

Responding to questions from opposition parties in the House of Representatives, Prime Minister Abe Shinzo said: “Regarding whether the state of emergency can be lifted by May 6, I think the current epidemic situation is still very tense. Right now, I cannot make a conclusion.”

Meanwhile, Minister in charge of economic revitalization Nishimura said that the Covid-19 Task Force will convene to make a final decision. He added that the meetings will be held from the 30th of this month.

According to the latest statistics, Japan has 14,831 people infected with the Sars-Cov-2 virus, of which 448 have died. Thanks to the strengthening of epidemic prevention measures, the number of new infections every day has tended to decrease but is uncertain. Experts assess that the Covid-19 epidemic in this country has not yet reached its peak, many cases of infection have unidentified origins. In particular, the number of deaths is on the rise./.
