Final fee for international driving license is 135,000 VND

Regarding the fee for international driving license issuance, the Ministry of Finance has just issued an opinion to "finalize" the fee for international driving license issuance at 135,000 VND, implemented according to the regulations in Circular No. 73/2012/TT - BTC.

Driver's license fees are being implemented according to Circular No. 73/2012/TT - BTC dated May 14, 2012 amending and supplementing Circular No. 76/2004/TT - BTC dated July 29, 2004 of the Ministry of Finance guiding on fees and charges in the field of road traffic, which stipulates that the driver's license fee is applied in general regardless of the user (domestic, foreign) as well as the type of vehicle (car, motorbike).

Previously, the Vietnam Road Administration had requested the Ministry of Transport to consider and agree with the Ministry of Finance to allow the agency issuing the International Driving Permit (IDP) to temporarily collect 135,000 VND/international driving license.

The Vietnam Road Administration also plans to pilot the issuance of international driving licenses from October 15. However, it has not yet been implemented en masse.

According to the leader of the Vietnam Road Administration, currently, if people need to renew their driver's license, they can bring their photo and required documents to the General Department to submit and complete the procedures.

After 4 - 5 days you can receive your international driving license.

"It is expected that in a few days, the units will implement the expansion of the issuance of international driving licenses," the leader of the General Department of Roads added.

The international driving license is an A6 sized book (148 x 105cm) with a security symbol, a grey cover, and white pages inside according to the prescribed format. The first pages contain basic information and scope of use in Vietnamese and English. The following pages contain information about the driver and vehicle classification in Russian, French, and Spanish.

Regarding the process of issuing a driving license, people only need to fill out an application form and bring their valid driving license, passport and permanent resident card (for foreigners) for verification and comparison to the issuance and exchange points to complete the procedures and pay the fee. After about 5 days, people will receive an international driving license with a validity of no more than 3 years and can be used in 73 countries.

Holders of an international driving permit must carry it with them when driving and present it together with their national driving license in the territory of the countries participating in the Vienna Convention and comply with the laws of the host country. An international driving permit may be revoked for a period of time in case of violation of the laws in force in the host country, but not longer than the time the driver leaves that country.

People with international driving licenses issued by countries participating in the Vienna Convention must carry their driving license and national driving license issued in accordance with the class of vehicle they are driving when driving on the territory of Vietnam. International driving licenses issued by Vietnam are not valid in the territory of Vietnam because they already have a national driving license./.
