Chairman of the US Democratic National Committee announced his resignation.

In a statement, Wasserman Schultz said she still plans to carry out her duties at the opening and closing sessions of the Congress, including speaking at the four-day event.

Florida Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz has come under heavy criticism after a series of leaked emails showed that some influential figures in the DNC supported former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and hindered her leading rival, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, in the recent primaries.

Earlier that day, Mr. Sanders called on Ms. Wasserman Schultz to resign immediately.

It is expected that at this convention, Mrs. Clinton will be officially nominated as the Democratic candidate, who will compete with Republican candidate Donald Trump in the US presidential election this November./.
