Lach Quen fishing port, Quynh Thuan commune in the last days of 2021 is more bustling than ever when at this time, many fishing boats of fishermen are continuously returning to shore to sell seafood. Traders gather at the port in large numbers waiting to buy seafood from the ship.

Just arriving at the port, captain Tran Thanh - owner of fishing boat NA 95669 in Quynh Long commune (Quynh Luu) excitedly announced to thetraderThis trip his ship had a good seafood season. Without waiting long, the crew on the ship quickly transported trays full of fish to the dock to sell to traders.

Captain Tran Thanh said: “The ship had just gone out to sea for 3 days and caught a full catch of hairtail, silver pomfret, and eel, so we quickly returned to shore. This trip brought in more than 450 million VND, of which the revenue from hairtail accounted for more than 300 million VND. After this trip, we will continue to go on 1-2 more trips before returning home for the Lunar New Year holiday.”

Participating in fishing on this boat, fisherman Ho Van Hung shared: “The last trip of the year was lucky, so the boat caught more than 3 tons of needlefish, bringing in revenue of more than 300 million VND. After deducting expenses, each crew member earned 10 million VND. Hopefully the next trips will continue to be lucky to welcome a more prosperous and fulfilling Tet holiday.”

Also at this time, many fishing boats of fishermen from Quynh Nghia, Tien Thuy, Quynh Long, Son Hai communes returned to shore. According to fishermen, this is the time of the Northern fish season, so the catch increased; seafood was more abundant and of better quality. Ms. Ho Thi Thuong - a trader in Tien Thuy commune (Quynh Luu) shared: "The ships arriving this time are mainly valuable fish such as hairtail, silver pomfret, squid, eel... As for hairtail, after many months of low value, the market has now stabilized, trade with China has been loosened so the price has increased from 80,000 VND/kg to 110,000 VND/kg. From now until Lunar New Year, we will buy 5 more tons of hairtail to sell."

Quynh Luu district currently has nearly 1,200 vessels. In 2021, despite being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, with the district's attention and the fishermen's efforts to go offshore, the seafood output reached and exceeded the plan with nearly 70,000 tons/year (accounting for nearly 50% of the total output of the whole province)./.
