Expert calls EU's support for prolonging conflict in Ukraine a mistake
(Baonghean.vn) - Expert Endre Szimó, head of the non-governmental organization "Hungarian Peace Circle", believes that the leading countries of the European Union "have the false illusion that they can defeat Russia".

TASS news agency reported on February 15 that Hungarian political scientist Endre Szimó commented that the leadership of the European Union (EU) is making a mistake by supporting the continuation of the conflict in Ukraine, even though Russia has expressed its readiness for serious dialogue.
“I think it is a mistake for the current EU leadership to continue to prolong the conflict instead of reaching an agreement with Russia,” the Hungarian political scientist said, recalling that in a recent interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, President Vladimir Putin showed that Russia is ready to compromise on Ukraine.
Political scientist Endre Szimó argues that leading EU states such as Germany and France, as well as EU leaders in general, are mistaken in their “illusion” that they can defeat Russia.
"The EU sees Ukraine's victory over Russia as a 'strategic interest', and is focusing its efforts on the war effort. Our people are paying the price for this war. Sanctions affect people's living standards," commented expert Endre Szimó.
The most serious consequence, according to Endre Szimó, is that the EU leadership is sacrificing the Ukrainian people on the front line. Nearly half a million Ukrainian soldiers have died in the conflict, which is now in its third year.
Sending a message to Western leaders, political scientist Endre Szimó expressed that the country and its people want to live in peace, and maintain good relations with both the East and the West.
"We are not interested in continuing the conflict in Ukraine. For the common good, the hot spots of war along the border must be eliminated. But to do this, it is necessary to recognize that everyone exists together, and everyone has security interests, and to compromise with each other for their own and common interests," said political scientist Endre Szimó.
Mr. Endre Szimó believes that responsible politicians should think about the interests of the country as a whole and of the majority of the people, and should not be guided by “the selfish material interests of a narrow class”. This is not easy but it is necessary for reconciliation between East and West./.
