Con Cuong: Overloaded landfill causes serious pollution
(Baonghean.vn) - More than 20 years since its establishment, the Con Cuong town landfill has become overloaded and seriously polluted, even located between the cemetery and the district stadium - one of the two important cultural institutions of the locality.
Con Cuong town landfill is located in Lam Tra village (Bong Khe commune). At the end of 1999, this landfill began to take shape, as a landfill for Con Cuong town and Bong Khe commune.
Up to now after more than 20 years of use, landfillThis has caused serious environmental pollution. Because there is no other place, garbage is still gathered here every day. Every time it rains, water from the rocky cliff overflows the landfill and flows onto the residential streets and into the stadium grounds.

Mr. Mai Quang Hoi - Chairman of Con Cuong Town People's Committee said: at the end of 1999, the town was assigned 2 hectares by the District People's Committee to make a landfill and cemetery, later whenplanningThe district center also arranges a stadium nearby.
Mr. Hoi also said that the town has 8 blocks, and every day the amount of household waste discharged is about 3-4 tons. The garbage collection is carried out by an environmental sanitation team of the town. However, because people also dump construction waste, the landfill has long been overloaded.

According to our research, this polluting landfill should have been relocated to another location, and Con Cuong district should have had a waste treatment plant using incinerator technology. Because, on June 30, 2016, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 3103/QD.UBND approving the pilot investment policy.domestic waste treatment plantsmall scale in Con Cuong, Quy Chau, Nghia Dan and Hoang Mai town. Con Cuong district has chosen to build a landfill in Yen Khe commune, with a capacity of 30 tons/day and night. The total investment is more than 20 billion VND, not including the cost of site clearance and infrastructure for the waste treatment station, this part is implemented by the People's Committee of Con Cuong district.
The project is expected to be built on an area of 24 hectares. Immediately after that, the waste treatment technology of T-Tech Technology Group Joint Stock Company was also selected for implementation, with the hope of soon solving the pollution problem at Bong Khe landfill for a long time. However, up to now, this project has not been able to be implemented.

After a long time of not being able to implement Decision 3103 of the Provincial People's Committee, T-Tech Technology Group Joint Stock Company has withdrawn from the project of building a waste treatment area in Con Cuong district. While Con Cuong district still does not have a waste treatment plant, some localities have put waste treatment plants into operation, solving the problem of environmental pollution.
Mr. Hoang Sy Kien - Chairman of the People's Committee of Con Cuong district said that the construction of a domestic waste landfill is a burning issue for the locality. Currently, the district is considering finding another location and putting it on the list of medium and long-term investment projects; however, it has not been approved yet so it has been temporarily put on hold.
