Son in trouble with law for cutting coffin lid, burning parents' property

(Baonghean.vn)- On September 27, the People's Court of Quy Hop district opened the first instance trial of the criminal case against defendant Vi Van Quang (born 1993) in Na Xen hamlet, Chau Quang commune for the crime of "Property destruction".

According to the indictment: due to a previous agreement, Quang told his biological parents, Mr. Vi Van Thuyet and Ms. Quan Thi Sinh, to borrow money to go to work far away, but his parents did not lend him money, making Quang angry. At noon on June 12, 2017, after returning from a trip, seeing his mother washing clothes in the well, Quang went into the house, took a knife and a lighter, and went down to the kitchen.

Quang used a knife to cut off the wooden coffin lid and threw it on the floor. Quang continued to take the old canvas and put it in the ironwood bed. Then Quang used a lighter to burn the canvas and the wooden bed. When the fire broke out, Quang took the previously cut coffin lid and burned it together, causing severe damage to the refrigerator and the kitchen roof. The total value of the property Quang destroyed was more than 8 million VND.

After receiving a report from Quang's parents, Quy Hop district police urgently arrested Vi Van Quang for investigation and verification. Here, Quang confessed to burning and destroying his property.

Considering that Vi Van Quang's behavior is dangerous to society, has violated other people's property and needs to be strictly handled for deterrence, education and general prevention.

For the above behavior, defendant Vi Van Quang was sentenced by the People's Court to 9 months in prison for the crime of "Property destruction" as prescribed in Clause 1, Article 143 of the Penal Code.
