Announcement of the Inland Waterway Transport Development Plan of Nghe An Province
(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of November 25, Nghe An Department of Transport held the Announcement Ceremony of the Inland Waterway Transport Development Plan of Nghe An province to 2020, with a vision to 2030.
The planning for the development of inland waterway transport in Nghe An province until 2020 was approved by the People's Committee of Nghe An province in Decision No. 2216/QD.UBND dated June 18, 2012. However, up to now, there have been many changes in reality, different from the approved planning.

To meet the requirement of building new plans suitable to the practical situation, the Department of Transport has built a plan for developing the inland waterway transport network of Nghe An province until 2020, with a vision to 2030.
Accordingly, the total number of kilometers of rivers and canals included in the planning is 436.3Km/1159.6Km, reaching a rate of 37.6%. The planning for the development of the inland waterway port system includes 4 ports, including: Ben Thuy Tourist Port, Nam Dan General Port, Cho Soi Cargo Port (Do Luong District), Trang Son Cargo Port (Do Luong District).
Inland waterway ports in the seaport waters include 8 ports: Cua Hoi Port, Nghi Xuan coal and construction materials port (replacing the current Ben Thuy coal port), Hung Hoa cargo port, Quynh Loc port, Cua Con port, Cua Thoi port, Cua Quen port, and Cua Van port.

The total number of inland waterway ports planned from now until 2020, with a vision to 2030, is 239. The number of passenger ports planned is 35.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Hoang Van Hue - Deputy Director of the Department of Transport said: The construction and implementation of the inland waterway development plan in the province today not only serves the gradual improvement of river routes in the province, serving the needs of freight transport, passenger transport, tourism... contributing to reducing the load on roads and railways; reducing transportation costs but also greatly contributing to the development of socio-economy, security and national defense in the area.

In particular, the planning of cargo terminals and sand and gravel construction material trading along rivers and canals aims to tighten the management of construction material trading activities and grant licenses to open inland waterway terminals.
The announcement of the planning helps relevant departments, branches, sectors and units have a basis to manage, exploit and protect land areas used for the development of inland waterway transport, contributing to strengthening the type of transport and developing the socio-economy of the province./.
