Nghe An Trade Union: Creative ways to support people to overcome the pandemic

Strict quarantine conditions in the blockade area have made life very difficult for workers. In order to join hands to help people, share with workers, and contribute to repelling the epidemic, many grassroots unions in Nghia Dan district have implemented a market model to help union members and households quarantined at home to get necessities and ensure their lives.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Quynh Trang - Vice President of the Labor Federation of Nghia Dan district said: Grassroots unions such as Nghia Lam, Nghia Lac, Nghia Binh ... have implemented the model of going to the market for others by publicizing the phone numbers of volunteers who are cadres and union members in the commune. Then, using the grassroots loudspeakers, zalo groups of residential groups, they notify each household that is in quarantine. When there is a need to buy food, people call, register with volunteers to synthesize and buy for them, and at the same time, the necessities after purchase will be delivered to the home so that the quarantined people can use them with peace of mind.

The volunteers all belong to local grassroots unions, teachers, union members of communes, members of women's associations in villages and hamlets in safe areas in the area, all actively participate.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu Trang - accountant of Nghia Lam commune, who participated in the volunteer group to go to the market for help, shared: “Nghia Lam commune has 2 hamlets, Minh Lam and Yen Lam, located in the blockaded area. The commune's grassroots union has called on union members in safe areas to support people in quarantine. Responding to the union's call, 3 volunteer groups, each consisting of 4 people, have been established. Every other day, the group will go to the market for help. The women in the group are all enthusiastic and responsible, choosing fresh food and delivering it directly to households in the quarantined area. During the epidemic, goods are also scarce. Going to the market is more difficult. Because neighboring communes have people infected with F0 and are blockaded, people limit their travel, trading and business. Sometimes we have to go to other markets to buy enough necessities for people. But the women in the volunteer team are not afraid. We hope that people will have enough health and nutrition,peace of mind against the epidemic”.

In addition to the task of going to the market for others, the volunteers also carry out propaganda and dissemination of measures to prevent and control Covid-19, the vaccination program to households and locked-down areas. Mr. NVC - a worker at FVF International Vegetables and Fruits Company, a worker infected with Covid-19 who is being isolated and treated in Nghia Binh commune, shared: "The volunteer team is very enthusiastic and responsible. During the past week, my family has been isolated, in the locked-down area, with 2 children and elderly parents at home. Thanks to the volunteer team going to the market for others, my family has enough essential food to ensure family life."

Ms. Quynh Trang - Vice President of the Labor Federation of Nghia Dan district emphasized that the model of going to the market for workers in the quarantined and isolated areas is a creative way, originating from the concern and practical help in difficulties and hardships of the union's home, and at the same time is a great source of spiritual encouragement for union members and people in quarantine and in the blockaded areas to feel secure and seriously implement measures to prevent and control the Covid-19 epidemic.

Being in a quarantined area, unable to travel and produce, not only people lack food but also livestock, poultry, buffalo, cows, chickens, and ducks. Sharing the concerns of the people, the volunteer team also called on everyone to help cut grass and harvest vegetables to help the people. Once again, the spirit of mutual love, mutual assistance, and mutual support in the fine tradition of humanity of the nation was aroused. The activities initiated by the trade union organization have strongly spread the spirit of love, assistance, village love, and neighborliness to each union member and worker, which has been recognized and highly appreciated by the people.

STRENGTHENING PROPAGANDA WORK

Not only going to the market for others and helping with practical work, in Nghia Dan district, many grassroots unions also organizelive radio mobile propagandaby car, motorbike to the villages, hamlets, and rural markets. Mr. Nguyen Sy Nghi - Chairman of the Trade Union of Nghia Hoi commune shared: We mobilized vehicles, loudspeakers, edited news bulletins on epidemic prevention and control to propagate to the villages, hamlets, calling on people to implement "5K", propagating the policy of vaccinating workers, especially children from 12 to 18 years old to quickly cover the vaccine to create community immunity, contributing to repelling the epidemic.

Mr. Tran Van Duong - Chairman of the Nghia Dan District Labor Federation said: “The Standing Committee of the District Labor Federation identifies the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic as an important and top priority task. However, the epidemic is unprecedented, so trade unions at all levels need to stay close to the grassroots, promote their roles, functions and tasks to organize many practical, meaningful, innovative and creative activities to help union members, workers and businesses overcome difficulties and quickly stabilize production. Trade unions at all levels actively participate in many practical and meaningful ways, while strengthening propaganda work to raise awareness of disease prevention and control among union members, workers and people, and soon repel the epidemic”.

In order to promptly encourage and support the frontline forces in epidemic prevention and control and workers and laborers facing difficulties, in 2021, the Nghia Dan District Labor Federation supported the frontline in the fight against the epidemic with 31 million VND, supported 14 F0 workers with 14 million VND, supported 19 F1 workers with 10.5 million VND. Supported 27 workers returning from the South with 13.5 million VND. In addition, the district's trade unions at all levels supported thousands of working days serving in quarantine areas, thousands of meals.support workersquarantine areas, as well as frontline forces against the epidemic.
