Temporary life in flood shelters in Nghe An border area
(Baonghean.vn) - Muong Ai Commune (Ky Son District) is the area most heavily affected by the floods of 2018. Every time the rainy season comes, the risk of landslides forces dozens of households here to run up high hills to set up tents to live temporarily, making life more difficult than ever.

Mr. Lu Quang Hung - Chairman of Muong Ai Commune People's Committee said: During the 2018 flood season, Ky Son district authorities planned to build iron-framed, tarpaulin-covered shelters for households living near the stream to evacuate when the flood comes. However, because they could not wait, people built temporary shelters, many of whom intended to live permanently at this location. |

"We have to live here temporarily because we were very scared in the old village. In the new village, there is no electricity grid and water is difficult to use, but it is safer anyway" - Ms. Hoa Pho Phen, a resident of Xop Phong village, Muong Ai commune said. |

However, the rocky hilly land is also a difficulty for the people. To cope with situations that may occur during the upcoming flood season, according to Mr. Lu Quang Hung, the commune government has relocated households living near the stream to temporary housing. In addition, the government has also prepared a plan, if necessary, to relocate 20 households in Xop Lau village, which is also at risk of landslides. |
