Speaking at the Socio-Economic Conference on the afternoon of May 30, delegate Luu Binh Nhuong said that the Government's report assessing the laxity in public service in some places was "correct"; at the same time, he said that the issues raised by the delegate had deep roots in the cadres.
Why are voters still upset about exam fraud, with some conclusions and statements from some agencies and units? Why does public opinion show harsh attitudes towards this or that official? According to the delegate, that is because people have lost trust in those labeled as officials and civil servants.
“If officials lack exemplary behavior, live like princes, "kings of the jungle"; some take advantage of their positions and powers to cultivate and arrange a whole group of followers, live lavishly, go abroad to have fun with state budget money... then how can voters and people love and respect them?” - Mr. Nhuong said.
Expressing sympathy with the Prime Minister, with some ministers, heads of sectors and leaders of some localities who are devoted to their work, worried, and put pressure on themselves and their units to strive to complete their goals and tasks, this delegate also shared the frustration of the people, businesses and conscientious civil servants. According to him, many inappropriate cases in the settlement are mainly caused by officials lacking conscience, responsibility and integrity.
The delegate from Ben Tre also frankly said that officials and civil servants who commit violations, are no longer trusted by the people, and are condemned by public opinion should "take action" by resigning, and should not "cling to power and position".
"I know this is very offensive, but for the sake of my conscience and responsibility as a National Assembly delegate, I accept this risk," said Mr. Nhuong.
After Mr. Luu Binh Nhuong spoke, delegate Nguyen Huu Cau - Director of Nghe An Provincial Police raised a debate sign.
“I hope the National Assembly will understand why I often argue with delegate Luu Binh Nhuong,” said Mr. Nguyen Huu Cau before expressing his opinion, because this is not the first time these two delegates have argued with each other in the parliament. This delegate said that in a forum like the National Assembly, if he did not speak up, “he was afraid that voters would misunderstand.”
“I know many National Assembly delegates laugh, but I ask delegate Luu Binh Nhuong to speak clearly. I do not encourage anyone to commit violations. The Party and the State handle the matter very strictly, and voters are also very serious about handling officials who commit violations. But delegate Luu Binh Nhuong spoke in a very general way, without anything specific,” said delegate Huu Cau.
This delegate asked: "How many officials are currently traveling abroad to have fun like officials in the past? I request that comrade Luu Binh Nhuong clearly inform the National Assembly."
"The National Assembly is ready to handle, the Party and the State are ready to handle such officials, otherwise people will think that our country "has a dark side somehow", I do not agree" - Director of Nghe An Provincial Police emphasized.
