To help candidates better understand the competency assessment test method and the new points of this year's exam compared to the first exam held in 2015, the reporter had an interview with Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Kim Son, Vice President of Hanoi National University on this issue.
- Dear Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Kim Son, following the success of the 2015 university entrance exam, this year, Hanoi National University continues to apply this exam method for the entrance exam. So, will this year's exam have any changes compared to 2015, sir?
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Kim Son:The test method using an aptitude test to enroll in regular universities was first organized by Hanoi National University in 2015.
This method has achieved good results and is highly appreciated by public opinion, candidates, parents and experts.
Therefore, this year, Hanoi National University continues to organize exams using this method based on inheriting and promoting the achieved results, at the same time, making some more realistic adjustments to perfect the new exam method.
Specifically, last year, the capacity assessment exam was only for admission registration results to member schools of Hanoi National University.
This year, some additional schools will participate in organizing the exam and collecting results for admission, including the Capital University, Nguyen Trai University, Da Nang University of Architecture and Nam Dinh University of Technical Education...
A new point of this year's exam method is that Hanoi National University will organize a computer-based foreign language proficiency test for all 5 languages for candidates taking the exam to apply to the University of Foreign Languages.
This is different from 2015. Candidates for the University of Foreign Languages only take the general competency test on the computer, while for the Foreign Language subject, candidates still take the test on paper.
This year, candidates will take the Foreign Language Proficiency Test on the computer, with a 90-minute test duration and 80 multiple-choice questions.
However, the foreign language test results are only valid in the year of taking the test for admission to the University of Foreign Languages under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi and to universities and colleges not under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi that have announced the use of foreign language test results for admission.
This year's competition will be divided into 2 rounds, with the first round divided into many days and shifts. The competitions will take place from May 5-8 and May 13-15 (about 6 days).
Phase 2 from August 5 to August 15. Candidates must choose both the test location and test time when registering.
This is different from last year, helping the school to be more proactive. For example, if the first exam session has enough candidates registered, the next candidates will be transferred to the second session.
- Could you please share a little about how to register for this year's contest?
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Kim Son:Candidates have two ways to submit their application: online and in person at the Examination Center of Hanoi National University. For online registration, candidates register for the exam online on the Examination Center's website at: http://www.cet.vnu.edu.vn, section "Register for the 2016 Competency Assessment Exam."
Regarding fees, candidates can pay the exam fee in two ways: directly or into the account of the Examination Center via the Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development (BIDV) under the code DKDT. Hanoi National University does not accept sending through other banks or by post. The reason is that in 2015, sending documents by post had certain delays or errors, leading to management difficulties and affecting the rights of candidates.
Software designed by Hanoi National University allows candidates to register to apply for the school's training programs.
Online registration helps reduce costs, travel time and unnecessary stress for candidates and their families; at the same time, it helps the school's admission process to be quicker and more convenient.
Candidates can go to the general website of Hanoi National University or the website of each member unit to directly register for the programs they wish to apply for.
- Regarding the set of competency assessment test questions, this year, will Hanoi National University add many new questions to avoid duplication as well as ensure balance in difficulty in the questions, sir?
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Kim Son:In 2015, the exam questions were assessed to have a good balance of difficulty between the exam sessions and the exam sessions. We surveyed the scores of candidates who registered for both sessions in 2015 and found that the average score difference between the two sessions was insignificant (1.7 points out of a total of 140 points).
This year, we continue to improve the technique of balancing difficulty. Every year, Hanoi National University has steps to screen the set of questions with a ratio that ensures the balance of difficulty between previous and subsequent exams, according to the years, and also adds and expands new questions with a reasonable ratio.
Basically, the exam structure has not changed compared to 2015, divided into compulsory and optional parts, 140 questions corresponding to 140 points and not including coefficients and score ratios between questions because more time is needed to do this work.
In addition, this year's exam will also increase the number of open-ended questions, linked to practical knowledge. The proportion of these questions will be gradually increased each year so that candidates can adapt.
- For the aptitude test, what do you think candidates should pay attention to when reviewing?
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Kim Son:The competency assessment test requires broad knowledge, including grades 10, 11 and 12, mainly grade 12. Hanoi National University wants to assess learners' competencies comprehensively, based on the foundation of high school knowledge combined with knowledge accumulated from life.
However, candidates should not worry too much because in fact, since the 2015 exam, candidates in urban or rural areas, remote areas have adapted to the conditions of taking the exam on computers as well as the way of making the exam questions. The results of the previous year's competency assessment test also showed that students with good and excellent academic performance all achieved quite good results in the competency assessment test.
Candidates with the highest scores in the aptitude test also had very high scores in the national high school exam.
One thing to note is that for candidates who are too biased in studying certain subjects, they need to review the knowledge of other subjects as well. Candidates can visit the homepage of Hanoi National University to familiarize themselves with this form of exam with some sample exam questions.
Thank you very much!
