Vinh University celebrates 10 years of training in social work and tourism
(Baonghean.vn) - Believing that the demand for human resources in social work and tourism is very high in the current context, Vinh University affirms that it will continue to invest in and develop these fields of study.
On the afternoon of December 9, the Faculty of History (Vinh University) held a ceremony to celebrate the 10th anniversary of training in social work and tourism.
Attending the ceremony were Member of the Provincial Party Committee Pham Trong Hoang - Secretary of Tuong Duong District Party Committee; Professor - Doctor Dinh Xuan Khoa - Rector of Vinh University, along with representatives of a number of relevant departments and thousands of students and alumni of the History Department.

At the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year, with the permission of the Ministry of Education and Training, Vinh University organized for the first time the enrollment of two majors: social work and tourism, under the Faculty of History.
After 10 years of training, more than 1,300 social work students have graduated with 450 students currently studying. Meanwhile, the tourism industry has also "produced" 778 students and 284 students are studying.

“Most of the graduates find jobs in their majors. They work all over the country, some are even working abroad,” said Associate Professor Dr. Tran Vu Tai, Head of the History Department.
Citing the forecast of Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Vu Tai said that in the coming time, Vietnam will need up to 2 million workers in the tourism sector. Regarding the social work sector, according to the Development Project for the period 2010 - 2020 approved by the Prime Minister, the demand for human resources in this sector is also increasing.

“According to this Project, in phase 1 (2010-2015), the number of social workers will increase by 10%. Each commune and ward will have at least one to two social workers. Thus, the whole country will need 20,000 workers in this sector,” said Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Vu Tai, adding that phase 2 of the Project will increase the number of social workers by 50%, equivalent to schools needing to train 60,000 workers.

According to the Head of the History Department, Vietnamese society is facing an increase in social evils, divorce, domestic violence, social inequality, etc. Solving these problems has become an urgent need.
“These things show that social work and tourism are potential industries that will certainly develop strongly in the coming time,” said Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Vu Tai, adding that to meet this need, the History Department is always actively innovating and improving its training programs.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Dinh Xuan Khoa congratulated the achievements of the two majors after 10 years of establishment. Vinh University has been making efforts to invest in facilities as well as the most advanced training programs to provide high-quality human resources for society.
