(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of August 11, the 8th Congress of Vietnamese Catholics for Building and Protecting the Fatherland in Vinh City (Nghe An) took place, term 2022 - 2027.

Attending the Congress were Mr. Nguyen Duc Thanh - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province; Phan Hai Thanh - Vice Chairman of the Catholic Solidarity Committee of the province; leaders of Vinh city; parish priests, parishioners and retired priests in the area; Catholic Solidarity Committee of the city; representatives of the Fatherland Front Committees of wards and communes; representatives of the Pastoral Councils of parishes and parishes and 80 delegates who are typical parishioners.

CommunityCatholicVinh city has 2,977 households with 12,577 people (accounting for 3.85% of the population), living in 125/325 blocks and hamlets of 21/25 wards and communes; operating in 2 parishes, 13 sub-parishes, with 8 priests doing pastoral work in the area.

The achievements in the city's socio-economic development in recent years have strengthened the people's trust in general and Catholics in particular in the leadership, administration and management of the government at all levels.beliefand the aspirations of the basic community of believers are met.

Thanks to that, the patriotic emulation movements, "Living a good life, following a good religion" in recent times have achieved encouraging results. The movement of solidarity and emulation to develop the economy and help each otherpoverty reduction, legitimate enrichment; building new rural areas and civilized urban areas achieved quite impressive results with 57.4% of well-off and rich households (in 2021); the rate of near-poor households was 1.94% and the poor households were only 0.57%. Typically, Yen Due and Dong Tan parishes no longer have poor or near-poor households.

Catholics contributed nearly 6.3 billion VND and donated 3,706 m2land, build 5,200m of concrete road, build cultural institutions, contribute to timely serving the needs of production development and daily life of people.people. The movement of solidarity to build cultural life, care for the development of education and health care; social charity, charity - humanitarian activities, gratitude, environmental protection, maintaining social order and safety are also actively responded to and implemented by parishioners.

The Congress of Vietnamese Catholics in Vinh City for the 2022-2027 term has agreed on a common goal: Strengthening the coordination of the Catholic Solidarity Committee with the Fatherland Front Committees at all levels and related departments and branches, priests, male and female religious, parish and sub-parish pastoral councils, promoting the strength of the bloc.great unityThe whole people successfully implemented the movement "The whole people unite to build new countryside; civilized urban areas; Living a good life and good religion" launched by the Vietnam Catholic Solidarity Committee.

Continue to strengthen and improve the quality of activities of the City Catholic Solidarity Committee, build residential areas that meet cultural standards, and advanced parishes; effectively implement the Joint Letter of the Vietnam Bishops' Council "Living the gospel in the heart of the nation to serve the happiness of compatriots".

Speaking at the Congress, Mr. Phan Hai Thanh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial Catholic Solidarity Committee acknowledged the achievements in all areas of the Vinh City Catholic Community in recent years. The congress unanimously elected 25 members to join the City Catholic Solidarity Committee for the 8th term, 2022-2027, and elected a delegation to participate in the Congress of Vietnamese Catholics for Building and Protecting the Fatherland in Nghe An province, 2022-2027.

On this occasion, 27 individuals were awarded Certificates of Merit by the City People's Committee and the City Fatherland Front Committee for their outstanding contributions in the past time.
