Ensuring ATM safety at the end of the year
The State Bank of Vietnam has just issued a document on ensuring service quality and ATM safety, especially at the end of the year and during the 2017 Lunar New Year.
According to this document, the State Bank requires card issuers and card payment organizations to closely monitor ATM fund balances to promptly replenish them to meet the maximum demand for increased transactions at the end of the year and the days before Tet, especially in industrial parks, export processing zones, and densely populated areas with high demand for cash withdrawals.

These organizations proactively take measures to reduce the load on ATMs, avoid long queues waiting to withdraw money; ensure that cash supply for ATMs is given top priority.
In addition, review, inspect, maintain and service the ATM system and equipment at the ATM to ensure safe and effective ATM operation at the end of the year and during the Lunar New Year.
At the same time, closely coordinate with the card switching organization to promptly handle customer incidents, complaints and questions, ensuring smooth ATM transactions at the end of the year and Lunar New Year.
The document also requires relevant units to coordinate and exchange information with the Vietnam Bank Card Association and member banks about ATM/POS points installed with card information theft devices and take appropriate measures to ensure asset safety for customers and banks.
Also in this document, the State Bank requires the Vietnam National Payment Joint Stock Company to conduct an inspection of the infrastructure and technical systems and arrange adequate personnel to ensure safe, smooth and stable switching operations for card payment transactions via ATM/POS during the year-end and Lunar New Year.
Vietnam National Payment Joint Stock Company coordinates with relevant units to monitor and handle errors and incidents; responds to inquiries and complaints from relevant organizations and individuals quickly and promptly, serving well the increased transaction needs of customers at the end of the year and during the Lunar New Year.
In addition, the State Bank also requested the State Bank branches in provinces and centrally run cities; the Banking Inspection and Supervision Department of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to promptly and fully supply cash for the ATM service needs of card payment service providers to ensure that they meet the needs of cash disbursement and ATM fund replenishment; and direct card payment service providers in the area to increase vigilance against criminal methods and tricks and take appropriate measures to prevent and combat crimes, ensuring ATM security and safety at the end of the year.
