List of 26 traffic violations with sharp increase in fines from January 1, 2025

From January 1, 2025, common traffic violations such as running red lights, speeding, going the wrong way... will be punished many times higher than at present.

Decree No. 168/2024/ND-CP regulating administrative sanctions for violations in the field of road traffic officially takes effect from January 1, 2025, replacingDecree 100/2019/ND-CP(amended and supplemented in Decree 123/2021/ND-CP) with many notable adjustments on fine levels, especially targeting dangerous and frequently recurring behaviors, which have increased significantly compared to present.

Fines for cars

1. Failure to comply with traffic signals such as running a red light has had the fine increased from 4 - 6 million VND to 18 - 20 million VND.

2. Going the wrong way on a one-way street or going the wrong way on a street with a "No entry" sign will result in a fine of 4 - 6 million VND to 18 - 20 million VND.

3. Not slowing down (or stopping) and giving way when driving from an alley or side road to the main road; Not giving way to vehicles on the priority road or main road from any direction at an intersection, the fine will also increase from 800,000 - 1 million VND to 4 - 6 million VND.

4. Changing direction without giving way to pedestrians or wheelchairs at crosswalks increases the fine from 300,000 - 400,000 to 4 - 6 million VND.

5. Opening the car door or leaving the car door open unsafely, causing a traffic accident, will be fined from 600,000 - 800,000 VND, increased to 18 - 22 million VND.

6. Transporting goods that are means of transport, machinery, technical equipment, and cylindrical goods that are not tied or tied incorrectly, which used to be fined 600,000-800,000 VND, has now increased to 18-22 million VND.

7. Failure to comply with traffic controller's instructions has increased the fine from 4 - 6 million VND to 18 - 20 million VND.

8. Obstructing or failing to comply with the request for inspection or control by a public official will have the fine increased from 4 - 6 million VND to 35 - 37 million VND.

9. Weaving, swerving; speeding; using your feet to steer the car while it is running on the road from 10-12 million VND to 40-50 million VND.

10. Violation of alcohol concentration exceeding 50 milligrams to 80 milligrams/100 milliliters of blood or exceeding 0.25 milligrams to 0.4 milligrams/1 liter of breath from 16 - 18 million VND to 18 - 20 million VND.

11. Driving at a speed exceeding 35km/h has a fine of 10-12 million VND increased to 12-14 million VND.

12. Driving a car with a license plate that has unclear letters or numbers (not having enough license plates, covering the license plate, license plate that is bent, obscured, has changed letters, numbers, colors, etc.) or having a license plate that does not match the vehicle registration certificate or having a license plate that is not issued by a competent authority will be fined from 4 - 6 million VND to 20 - 26 million VND.

13. Using hand-held phones or other electronic devices while driving a vehicle on the road is also being tightened with fines increasing from 2 - 3 million VND to 4 - 6 million VND.

14. Driving a four-wheeled motorized passenger vehicle or a four-wheeled motorized cargo vehicle onto the highway will be subject to a fine of 12 - 14 million VND (This is a new violation)

15. Stopping or parking on the highway in an incorrect place will also result in a fine increased from 10 - 12 million VND to 12 - 14 million VND.

16. Driving in the wrong direction on the highway, the fine has increased from 16 - 18 million VND to 30 - 40 million VND.

17. The fine for reversing on the highway used to be 16 - 18 million VND, now it has increased to 30 - 40 million VND.

18. Making a U-turn on the highway is one of the violations with the highest fine, from 10-12 million VND before, now 30-40 million VND.

Motorbike:

1. Failure to comply with traffic light signals increases the fine from 800,000 - 1 million VND to 4 - 6 million VND.

2. Driving in the wrong direction on a one-way street increases the fine from 1-2 million VND to 4-6 million VND.

3. Driving a vehicle on the road with blood or breath alcohol concentration exceeding 50 milligrams to 80 milligrams/100 milliliters of blood or exceeding 0.25 milligrams to 0.4 milligrams/1 liter of breath will be fined from 4 - 5 million VND to 6 - 8 million VND.

4. Driving a vehicle on the road with a blood or breath alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams/100 milliliters of blood or exceeding 0.4 milligrams/1 liter of breath will be fined from 6 - 8 million VND to 8 - 10 million VND.

5. Driving over the speed limit by more than 20 km/h will increase the fine from 4 - 5 million VND to 6 - 8 million VND.

6. Driving a motorbike on the highway, the fine has increased from 2-3 million VND to 4-6 million VND.

7. Driving in a zigzag or swerving manner has been increased from 6 - 8 million VND to 8 - 10 million VND.

8. Causing a traffic accident and not stopping the vehicle immediately, not preserving the scene, not assisting the victim, not staying at the scene or not reporting immediately to the nearest police station or People's Committee will be fined from 6 - 8 million VND to 8 - 10 million VND.
