Teenage thief sentenced
(Baonghean.vn) - Dropping out of school early, living on the streets and then finding loopholes in people's lives to steal property, Luong May Hieu (born in 2005), residing in Noong De village, Nam Can commune, Ky Son district, has just been brought to trial.
According to the indictment, after a period of surveillance, at around 8:00 a.m. on December 2, 2022, Luong May Hieu went to the house of Nguyen Thi Thuong (born in 1982), who lives in the same village, to steal property. After waiting for the homeowner to leave the house, Hieu used a hammer and a sharp iron bar that he had prepared in advance to break the bathroom ventilation pipe and then crawled inside to steal more than 10 taels of gold, 2 necklaces, 1 watch and 2.5 million VND.

After stealing the above assets, Hieu hid them on the riverbank, then took them to gold shops in Muong Xen town to sell them gradually to get money for personal expenses.
The amount of property that Luong May Hieu stole is valued at more than 69 million VND.
Based on the content of the case as well as the developments at the trial, the panel of judges determined that the defendant's actions were dangerous to society, violated the property rights of citizens, and negatively affected security and order, so it was necessary to isolate the defendant from social life to ensure deterrence and rehabilitation. However, at the time of committing the crime, the defendant was under 18 years old, so his awareness was limited.
With the above behavior, after deliberation, the People's Court of Ky Son district sentenced Hieu to 18 months in prison for the crime ofTheft of property.
