Ethics and responsibilities of journalists
(Baonghean.vn) - Amidst the flood of congratulations and sharing, amid the brilliant colors of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day June 21, society has the opportunity to honor journalists who dare to sacrifice themselves for their career, ready to be present everywhere to promptly inform about the country's burning issues.
As society develops, journalists may have less hardship, but writers also have to face more complex and dangerous relationships, requiring each person to always cultivate ethics, a spirit of dedication to their career, and be ready to accept all challenges to fulfill their noble responsibilities.
With a tradition of more than 90 years, Vietnamese journalists have the right to be proud of the growth of the country's press. During the resistance war, many journalists and soldiers, both holding pens and guns, were present at the front line, ready to sacrifice for the cause of national liberation and national reunification. In the cause of building and developing the country, journalists have become a bridge to bring the Party's guidelines and the State's laws and policies to the people, promoting patriotic emulation movements, and motivating all classes of people to overcome difficulties and challenges, especially in the period of innovation and international integration.

The press has become a vanguard force in the fight against corruption, waste and social evils and negativity; performed the role of social supervision and criticism, promoted the people's right to mastery; fought to protect sovereignty over seas and islands; refuted erroneous and hostile viewpoints, contributing to strengthening people's trust in the Party, State and regime; journalists are also diplomats on the information front so that the world can better understand Vietnam as a peace-loving nation, enthusiastically building a progressive, civilized and happy world...
A good journalist not only knows how to keep himself "round", but must be sensitive in detecting problems. At the same time, he must have the courage to "read the pulse" of life, know how to inform appropriately and effectively. How to make journalistic works have vitality, move public opinion, and gain public support. In other words, with diligence, intelligence and passion for the profession, a true journalist must fulfill his social responsibility and civic duty so as not to disappoint the trust and expectations of the people. That is the ethics of dedication of a journalist.
In the digital age, journalism is more convenient thanks to the powerful support of modern technology; there is more information, and the conditions for accessing issues are easier and more diverse. However, what is the essence, what is the phenomenon, what are the issues that need to be analyzed, explained, and debated to orient public opinion... depends on the ability to grasp, judge, and the courage of each journalist in an environment full of information.
Every profession requires professional ethics. But for journalists, professional ethics must be even more highly regarded, because the products of journalists affect many people, many components of society, and have specific characteristics in terms of awareness, ideology, and ethics. Being careless, chasing cheap needs, reporting sensational news, and attracting readers in the press will leave unpredictable consequences that are not easy to overcome. Therefore, the social responsibility of journalists is always highly regarded as an indispensable ethical standard for writers.
There may still be journalists or people who call themselves journalists who extort money from businesses. But that is just a “bad apple spoiling the barrel”. The majority of journalists remain steadfast and steadfast in their stance, and there cannot be “two-faced” journalists. Wherever there are events, there are journalists. They also fought side by side with soldiers in Hoang Sa and Truong Sa during the “hottest” days. They also worked day and night with border guards, coast guards and other forces on the front line against smuggling and trade fraud; they are ready to accept the danger when rushing into the front line of the fight against corruption, social evils, robbery and murder, to protect justice and reason. Journalists who write and fight to protect what is right are always upright, they fight to the end!
Knowledge helps journalists stay calm to detect abnormalities in a series of events that, at first glance, seem reasonable. A pure heart and political courage will help journalists be more confident in themselves, not calculating gains and losses in their work but being ready to devote themselves to their profession, staying away from trivial temptations. That is the ethics and responsibility of journalists before the fate of the country and the people!
