Dilapidated spillway endangers road users

(Baonghean.vn) - Ba Nha spillway in Lang Thanh commune (Yen Thanh) is currently seriously degraded with iron bars exposed above the water surface, and the spillway surface is covered with cracks and deep holes.

Recently, many people in the northern communes of Yen Thanh district have continuously reported the deterioration and severe damage of Ba Nha spillway located in hamlet 2, Lang Thanh commune, causing danger to road users.

According to the reporter's records, the entire spillway's cement has been peeled off, leaving broken iron and steel exposed. Many deep, concave holes on the spillway's surface are also very dangerous for people and vehicles passing through.

Not only does this spillway affect people's travel, it is also a nightmare for high school students in Tien Thanh, Ma Thanh and Tan Thanh communes every time they want to go to Bac Yen Thanh High School.

Expressing the hardship each time he crosses the spillway, an 11th grade student from Bac Yen Thanh High School, residing in Tan Thanh Commune, said: “Every week I go to school through this spillway. The spillway surface is damaged, with exposed iron and steel, making it very dangerous to travel. Once my bicycle got caught in the iron bar and I fell. I, like other students, really hope that the spillway will be repaired soon to make it easier to get to school.”

Mr. Hoang Danh Tho - Chairman of Lang Thanh Commune People's Committee worried: "We have sent many reports to the District People's Committee to request repairs but have not been successful. Recently, due to the difficulties in people's travel, the locality has also poured soil and rocks to temporarily line the spillway, however, due to several consecutive rains, much of the soil and rocks have been washed away. The spillway is severely damaged, making people extremely upset, especially the students who have to pass through here every day."

Discussing this issue, Mr. Phan Thanh Cao - Head of the Economic and Infrastructure Department, Yen Thanh district said: "Ba Nha spillway is located on the route from Yen Thanh General Hospital to Tan Thanh commune, this is a road that was paved with stone and asphalt in 2003. Every time there is damage, the district allocates the budget to handle and repair. Regarding the damage at Ba Nha spillway, a year ago we inspected and are trying to request a project to upgrade and repair".

It is known that Ba Nha spillway has been put into use for more than 20 years. The total length of the spillway is about 8 meters, the width is 5 meters, located on the inter-commune road connecting Yen Thanh District General Hospital to Tan Thanh. The spillway was built to serve the travel needs of local people, and is also a place to discharge water during floods, serving agricultural production for the people.

More than ever, people want Ba Nha spillway to be repaired soon to ensure the travel needs of people, especially students, to avoid unfortunate accidents, especially as the rainy and stormy season is approaching./.
