Beware of venomous snakes appearing during the summer.
(Baonghean.vn) - Since the beginning of July, many families in Nghe An have been terrified by the continuous discovery of venomous snakes crawling into their homes. Notably, most of them are krait snakes, the same species that fatally bit a young woman in Nghia Dan district.

The first incident involvedkraitThe incident that terrified many people whenever it was mentioned was the snake that crawled into a house and fatally bit a young woman in Nghia Dan district. Specifically, at around 2:00 AM on July 3rd, Ms. NTL (born in 2000, residing in Yen Phu village, Nghia Lam commune, Nghia Dan district) was sleeping in her room on the second floor of her house. Feeling cold, she pulled the blanket up to cover herself, and a krait snake inside the blanket bit her three times in the neck.
Although her family quickly took her to the Northwest Regional General Hospital for emergency treatment, and then transferred her to Nghe An Friendship General Hospital, after 5 days of hospitalization, on July 8th, Ms. L. passed away.
More fortunately than the case mentioned above, on the evening of July 8th, NTQ (born in 2016, residing in Hung Dong commune, Vinh City) went to her garden and was unfortunately bitten on the foot by a krait snake. Upon discovering the incident, her relatives quickly applied a tourniquet to her right foot and took her to Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital for emergency treatment. Fortunately, the child received timely treatment and her life was not in danger.

In the following days, residents in many areas of the province continuously discovered krait snakes crawling into their homes. On the night of July 10th, a resident in Quang Tien ward, Thai Hoa town, discovered a krait snake about 1 meter long in the bathroom. Knowing it was venomous, the person immediately called family members to help capture and kill the snake. It is believed that the snake may have entered the bathroom through the family's water pipes.
Subsequently, on the evening of July 11th, at the home of Ms. Vi Cang (residing in Na Chao village, Huu Kiem commune, Ky Son district), a snake approximately 1 meter long also crawled through the kitchen window into the house. Fortunately, Ms. Cang and her husband discovered it in time.
In Dien Chau district, a resident shared a video from a security camera showing a cobra crawling into their living room. At the time, two women and a small child were playing in the living room when the venomous snake entered the house. A short while later, the child alerted their mother of the snake, so the two women immediately picked up the child and left, then grabbed sticks to kill the venomous snake.

On July 13th, the family of Ms. Thai Thi Hien (residing in Hoa Son commune, Do Luong district) was startled to discover a krait lying on a doormat in front of the bathroom. Fortunately, because it was discovered in time, no one was bitten. According to Ms. Hien, earlier, she, her husband, and their youngest son had gone into the bathroom to wash up before going to bed, but luckily did not step on the doormat on the bathroom floor. When it was the eldest son's turn to go in, he discovered the rear half of the snake lying in the doormat.
On July 14th, a 57 kg dog belonging to a family in My Thuong hamlet, Hung Loc commune (Vinh City) was also bitten to death by a cobra that crawled into their house. According to the owner, at around 9 PM, a cobra crawled into his house. The dog saw it and ran to attack and chase the snake. Immediately afterward, the dog was attacked by the snake. About 10 minutes later, the dog died. Upon discovering the incident, he was unable to intervene and later used a shovel to kill the snake.
The wound needs to be cleaned and first aid administered promptly.
Explaining the recent spate of snakes entering homes and gardens, experienced individuals suggest that this is a completely normal phenomenon, as it's summer and snakes need water, so they crawl in to find water sources. However, caution is needed in damp areas with running water, such as sinks, kitchens, and bathrooms, especially areas with wastewater.

According to statistics, four types of venomous snakes are commonly found in Nghe An province:
The firstThe krait, also known as the black and yellow or black and white krait, causes paralysis of the entire body, respiratory muscles, dehydration, and sodium imbalance in the blood when bitten. The bite site does not swell, leaving only two tooth marks, and is not painful. Without timely treatment, the patient will suffer respiratory failure and death.
MondayIt was a cobra (also known as a king cobra), and the bite caused swelling and necrosis. The patient died from toxins that caused necrosis and complications from the necrosis.
TuesdayIt was a king cobra bite; the bite site caused significant swelling but no necrosis. The patient died from respiratory paralysis and generalized muscle paralysis.
WednesdayIt was a viper (a type of pit viper with a red tail), and the bite caused swelling and blood clotting disorders. The patient died due to the blood clotting disorder.
When bitten by a venomous snake, the victim needs to have the wound cleaned, receive immediate first aid, apply a light tourniquet if bitten on the leg or arm, and be immediately taken to a medical facility. It is especially important not to treat the patient at home with traditional remedies. The severity of symptoms depends on the size of the snake and the bite location, which is more dangerous if it is close to the heart or brain.
According to folk wisdom, to repel snakes from entering homes and gardens, people can plant certain types of plants such as lemongrass, citronella, and garlic orchids around the house. In particular, the red-tailed pit viper is extremely sensitive to smells, so planting these plants will be even more effective. Additionally, you can mix coarse salt with crushed garlic in a 1:1 ratio and sprinkle it around the entrance to the house and in the garden.
In addition, to prevent snake bites, it is necessary to check areas with water sources such as washing areas, kitchens, bathrooms, and sewage outlets. When gardening, especially in damp areas, observe carefully to detect any snakes hiding there.
