Dien Chau has a good spring peanut season

In Dien Hung, Dien Hoang, Dien Thinh, Dien Thanh communes... farmers have begun harvesting spring peanuts; mainly peanuts are sold fresh to traders in the fields, serving the needs of holidays and restaurants and beer bars.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Bon in Hamlet 4, Dien Thinh Commune said: "My family grows 4 sao of peanuts, all of the boiled Sen knot peanuts, which are sweeter and more delicious than hybrid peanuts. My family is harvesting the first sao and selling them for 13,000 VND/kg."

The new point in this spring crop is that people have restored the traditional lotus peanut variety, so it is planted en masse on 1,500 hectares, accounting for nearly 50% of the district's area, gradually replacing hybrid peanuts. The advantage of lotus peanuts is that they have firm tubers, large kernels, and are sweet and rich, so they are very popular with customers.

With a high yield of 3 - 3.5 quintals/sao of fresh peanuts, selling price of 1.3 million VND/quintal, Dien Chau farmers earn an average of 4 million VND/sao, equivalent to the previous spring crop. Harvesting fresh peanuts usually takes half a month less than drying peanuts, saving a lot of work, so many farmers harvest early instead of selling dry.

The hot weather and high demand for fresh peanuts for the tourist season have resulted in high prices for early season peanuts; traders come to the fields to buy them and sell them in Vinh City and Hanoi.

According to calculations, Dien Chau farmers will sell about 6,000/20,000 tons of fresh peanuts in the spring crop, accounting for nearly 30% of the total output. Dien Chau will complete harvesting 3,200 hectares of spring peanuts by the end of April.
