Previously, on May 8, the veterinary agency took samples of sick pigs from Mr. Le Xuan Duong and Mr. Phan Xuan Hung's households in Hamlet 3, Dien Quang Commune (Dien Chau). Test results on the evening of May 9 showed that the samples from these two households were positive for African swine fever.
Immediately after the results were available, at noon on May 10, the district veterinary agency and the Dien Quang commune government proceeded to destroy the entire herd of pigs of 2 households, including 26 pigs of Mr. Le Xuan Duong with a total weight of 836 kg, and 4 pigs at Mr. Phan Xuan Hung's house with a total weight of 60 kg.
The total weight destroyed was 896 kg - the largest number of pigs destroyed in Dien Chau district up to this point.
According to a source, Mr. Phan Xuan Hung's family had previously imported pigs from Dien Van commune (Dien Chau) to raise. It is worth mentioning that Dien Van commune is the first locality in Dien Chau district to have pigs testing positive for African swine fever.
On the morning of May 10, the commune held an urgent meeting to establish teams to prevent African swine fever. Initially, the commune purchased 200 kg of lime powder and received 17 liters of disinfectant chemicals from the district veterinary station to serve the work of preventing African swine fever.
Thus, in just 10 days, in Dien Chau district, 7 outbreaks of African swine fever occurred in 7 communes: Dien Van, Dien Kim, Dien Thai, Dien Truong, Dien My, Dien Quang and Dien Bich. African swine fever is still very complicated in this locality.
