Viettel FC has reached an agreement to sign a contract with Mr. Lee Heung Sil, 57 years old from Korea, to become the head coach of this team. The contract is valid for 2 years.

Lee Heung Sil (1961) was the head coach of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors - one of the most famous clubs in Korea. This club was founded in 1994 but has won the Korean National Championship (K.League 1) 6 times, the Korean National Cup 3 times, the Korean Super Cup 1, and the Asian Club Cup (AFC Champions League) 2 times. Of which, this coach contributed 2/6 Korean National Championships (2009, 2011), 1 National Cup, 1 Super Cup and 1 AFC Champions League (2006).

He has also coached K.League 2 clubs Ansan Police and Asan Greenners. Ansan Police won the championship in 2016 despite having no foreign players in the squad and a limited budget. Notably, a year earlier, current head coach of the Vietnamese national team Park Hang-seo also won the K.League 2 championship in 2015 with Sangju Sangmu Phoenix.

As a player, Mr. Lee played for the Korean national team at the 1990 FIFA World Cup. In 1986, he and head coach Park Hang-seo were selected into the best 11 players at the Korean National Championship.

Mr. Lee has now started his training at Viettel Club. Viettel players will continue to practice until the 27th of the 12th lunar month (February 1) and gather on the 3rd day of Tet (February 7) to prepare for the new season starting at the end of February 2019.

In addition to appointing a new head coach, Viettel has previously successfully recruited central defender Que Ngoc Hai (Song Lam Nghe An), striker Vu Minh Tuan (FLC Thanh Hoa) and foreign duo Gustavo and Kayo from Brazil.
