Tourism must emphasize aesthetics.
In recent years, tourism has become a key economic sector. Meanwhile, despite its potential, the development and branding of Nghe An tourism still faces difficulties. Nghe An Newspaper had a conversation with Dr. Tran Thi Thuy - lecturer of Tourism and Cultural Management - Vinh University about this issue.
Promoting the advantages of the tourism industry
PV:Madam, tourism is considered a “smokeless industry”. Can you elaborate on this concept?
Dr. Tran Thi Thuy:Tourism is a service industry but the "smokeless industry" is considered an unofficial name for the tourism industry because people want to talk about three issues: production methods, profits and positive impacts of tourism on the environment. In terms of production methods, tourism is a synthetic economic sector, it was born and operates based on the development of many other economic sectors. Like an industry, the tourism industry also operates according to a process, with departments coordinating to form a closed, continuous production chain. Besides, the profits that the tourism industry brings are not inferior to those of other industries. Finally, if tourism develops in a sustainable and responsible direction, it will limit the negative impacts on the environment, which is the "smokeless" characteristic of the tourism industry. Thanks to such advantages, the tourism industry has been holding an important position in the Vietnamese economy in general and Nghe An in particular.
PV:So, according to you, what is the potential of tourism in Vietnam in general and Nghe An in particular today?
Dr. Tran Thi Thuy: Vietnam is a country with tourism potential in both nature and culture.
In terms of nature, Vietnam has strengths in the diversity of terrain, terrain with high contrast. Climate is both a development condition and a tourism resource, in many places such as Sapa, Tam Dao, Mau Son, Ba Na, Da Lat, climate is one of the factors that attract tourists. We have a system of national parks, nature reserves that ensure the diversity of the flora and fauna, which is one of the outstanding tourism resources. Vietnam is proud to have more than 125 beaches and is one of the few countries that owns the most beautiful bays in the world. In addition, Vietnam also has hot mineral springs, very suitable for developing types of resort, ecological, and medical tourism. Thus, in terms of natural tourism potential, Vietnam has strengths in the factors of terrain, climate, water resources and flora and fauna.
In terms of cultural tourism potential, Vietnam has more than 3,000 landscapes and historical sites listed as national heritage. Many of Vietnam's cultural heritages are recognized by UNESCO as world cultural heritages. Vietnam has 54 ethnic groups, each with its own characteristics in terms of religion, beliefs, customs, traditions, festivals, cuisine, costumes, housing, and traditional art forms. That is the great tourism potential that not every country has.
