While the whole country was looking forward to celebrating the historic victory day of April 30, priest Dang Huu Nam had arrogant and provocative actions, defaming the achievements of the revolution, trampling on the blood sacrifices of generations of fathers and grandfathers to regain national independence, insulting the dedication of many generations of Vietnamese people, including veterans.

At 5:00 p.m. on April 30, 2017, at Phu Yen Parish Church (An Hoa Commune), priest Dang Huu Nam preached with extreme, reactionary words: “…April 30 is a day of mourning for the nation and the parish; the day that marks the Vietnamese people preparing to enter slavery to foreign powers, April 30 - the darkest day of the Vietnamese people”…

Faced with such actions and words that distort historical facts, on behalf of nearly 600 members of the Cau Giat Town Veterans Association, Mr. Nguyen Hong Long - Chairman of the Veterans Association spoke out in protest and requested the Party, the State and authorities at all levels to take strict measures to handle priest Dang Huu Nam according to the law.

“Dang Huu Nam’s actions are clearly reactionary, disguised as a priest trampling and denying the achievements of the revolution. With a high sense of responsibility and as a trusted force of the Party and the government, we call on the members of the Veterans Association to stand up to protest and demand that Dang Huu Nam stop distorting the historic victory of April 30,” Mr. Nguyen Hong Long suggested.

Veteran Hoang Trung Tuong - Member of Branch 3 said: Church is a place for believers to pray and carry out the duties of the religion, not a place to preach against the revolution. Therefore, Dang Huu Nam's provocative actions are a violation of Vietnamese state law and religious law.

Many war veterans believe that Dang Huu Nam's actions and words are ungrateful to his predecessors who devoted their youth and sacrificed their blood and bones to gain the peace and freedom that he himself is enjoying today.

“We are the ones who directly shed blood for national independence. Some sacrificed, but there are also people who are currently bleeding from the effects of war, Agent Orange, war invalids...so the actions of inciting and denying the victory of priest Dang Huu Nam are unacceptable. We request that superiors carefully consider and handle this seriously,” said veteran Ho Van Lu, member of Branch 5.

The War Veterans Association of Cau Giat town passed a Resolution to protest against Mr. Dang Huu Nam, parish priest of Phu Yen, An Hoa commune. It is requested that Vinh diocese and Thuan Nghia ward take measures to prevent the illegal acts of priest Dang Huu Nam.

The war veterans also requested that priest Nam strictly comply with the law, not to make any statements inciting parishioners to do illegal acts, and requested that Mr. Dang Huu Nam apologize to the people and war veterans of An Hoa commune, Quynh Luu district in particular, and the war veterans and people nationwide for his words and actions distorting the history and traditions of April 30 of the Vietnamese people./.
