Supporting the whole family, Nghe An female student still won First Prize in Provincial Excellent Student
(Baonghean.vn) - Although her family is poor and her parents are often sick, Nguyen Thi Kim Thoa - a student in class 11 C1, Kim Lien High School, Nam Dan district, still strives to study well, achieving the title of Excellent Student of the province for 2 years.
In mid-July, in a cramped house in Tru 2 hamlet, Kim Lien commune (Nam Dan), Nguyen Thi Kim Thoa was busy taking care of and bathing her father after bringing him home from the hospital with her mother. The poor student's family situation was already difficult, and since Nguyen Van Yen (53 years old) - Thoa's father fell ill and was hospitalized for a long time, their situation became even more dire.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ha (50 years old) - Thoa's mother said that the family's few fields only had enough rice to eat, so the couple had to work many extra jobs to earn money to pay for their children's education. They had not yet paid off the loan to build a level 4 house, and now they were struggling to find money to send Thoa's father to the hospital.

He was treated at many hospitals but did not recover. He still has to stay in one place. The doctor said that Mr. Yen had a pinched nerve in his cervical spine, a herniated disc, a stroke, etc., so he could not move.
Her husband was like that, nearly a year ago, Mrs. Ha also discovered that she had breast cancer, and her health was rapidly declining. Knowing that she had a serious illness, but due to difficult family circumstances, she could not go to the hospital for treatment. "When I was healthy, I tried to work hard to raise my children and send them to school, but now both my husband and I are sick, helpless, no one takes care of the children," Mrs. Ha said sadly.

Nguyen Thi Kim Thoa - an example of a student who overcomes difficulties to study well. |
Thoa is the youngest of two children, her older brother is in poor health and cannot help her parents. Growing up in a poor family, Thoa was aware of this early on and always tried her best in both work and study. Mrs. Ha said: Thoa was able to do all the farming work such as plowing, sowing, harvesting rice, pulling peanuts... from a very young age. When she was in school, during the main crop season, she also asked to leave school to stay home and help her parents.
During the days Thoa’s father was in the hospital (more than a month now), her mother was sick and had to take care of him. All the household chores, from cooking to farming, were taken care of by Thoa. She drove the buffalo to the field by herself, plowed and sowed all the rice fields in her family… Everyone in Tru 2 hamlet, Kim Lien commune, praised Thoa’s spirit of overcoming difficulties.

Parents fell ill, Thoa took care of both housework and farming |
Despite her family's difficult circumstances, Thoa always studied hard, stayed up late, and woke up early. When she came home tired from working in the fields, Thoa still studied until late at night before resting. Sometimes, when she woke up in the middle of the night and saw her daughter still studying hard at the desk, Mrs. Ha was worried, afraid that her daughter would not have enough strength and would fall ill. Holding the old, tattered cloth bag in her hand, she said: "This is the bag I bought for Thoa in 6th grade. The zipper and strap are broken. I've repaired it several times. She still takes it to school every day. The bicycle was also given to her by someone."
Overcoming her circumstances, Thoa has achieved many academic achievements. Over the past 11 years, she has been an excellent student almost every year. Notably, in grades 9 and 11, she won second and first prizes in the provincial competition for excellent students in Civic Education. “I studied well in all subjects, but my teachers chose me to compete in Civic Education. I won prizes both times, and I was surprised by the results,” Thoa said.
Thoa's 11th grade final score was high in all subjects (Math 8.3; Physics 9.0; Biology 8.4; History 8.5; Geography 8.4, Civics 9.8...). With an average score of 8.5 for the whole year, Thoa is a top student in the school's selective class. Thoa is currently studying for the A1 block (Math, Physics, English) to take the entrance exam to schools in the armed forces.

Despite difficult family conditions, Thoa still tries hard to study well. |
Mr. Hoang Manh Thang - Head teacher of class 11 C1, Kim Lien High School said: "Thoa is an example of a poor student overcoming difficulties at the school. Due to difficult family conditions, her parents are sick all year round, many times Thoa intended to quit school to help with work as well as reduce the cost of education for her parents, but with the encouragement of the Board of Directors, teachers and friends, she continued to go to school. With her determination to overcome difficulties, with her will and determination, Thoa has achieved many remarkable achievements".
The road ahead for this poor but good student is still full of difficulties and hardships, especially when the 12th grade is approaching, while her father is bedridden and her mother has a serious illness. Hopefully, with the help of the community, Thoa's path to school will not be interrupted and her dream of becoming a police officer will come true.
