Selling price of Covid-19 vaccine Vietnam bought from UK
The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is affordable ($3-4 per dose) and easier to store than other Covid-19 vaccines.
On January 4, Deputy Minister of Health Truong Quoc Cuong said that Vietnam has signed a contract with AstraZeneca to secure vaccines for 15 million Vietnamese people (30 million doses).
TypeVaccinedeveloped by the University of Oxford and pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca has been approved by the UK's medicines and healthcare products regulator.
The UK has now begun vaccinating priority populations with the vaccine.
How does this vaccine work?
The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is based on a genetically modified cold virus that cannot grow in the human body.
After being vaccinated, the human body will produce the spike protein of the Corona virus, stimulating the immune system to respond.
Effective
Each person needs two doses of the vaccine, four weeks apart, to protect against Covid-19. However, a dosing error led to the discovery that people who received only 1.5 doses were more effective than those who received the full two doses (90% compared to 62%).

Meanwhile, the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines were found to be more than 90% effective in clinical trials.
According to scientists, any vaccine that is more than 50% effective is considered good.

Advantage
The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is set to be a key part of the UK's vaccination programme and the cornerstone of the global vaccination process.
The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine must be stored and transported at minus 70 degrees and only kept in a regular medical refrigerator at 2-8 degrees Celsius for a maximum of 5 days.
In contrast, the Oxford - AstraZeneca vaccine can be stored at 2-8 degrees Celsius for up to 6 months.
In financial terms, the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine costs about $3-4 per shot, compared with $20 for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine and $30 for the Moderna vaccine.
However, there should be a range of vaccines available, including those from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, said Professor Adam Finn, a vaccine expert at the University of Bristol.
“We need to find out what happens when we combine different vaccines in the same person,” Mr Finn said. “We might get broader, stronger or longer-lasting immunity.”
