Vietnam’s coffee output in the 2024-2025 crop year is forecast to be lower than the previous year due to adverse weather affecting productivity. This situation has contributed to a worsening supply shortage, causing global coffee prices to tend to increase sharply.
According to the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (Vicofa), coffee output in Vietnam, the world's largest Robusta producer, is forecast to reach 26.5 million bags in the 2024-2025 crop year. This figure is down from 27 million bags in the previous crop year and also lower than the estimate in December 2024.
Not only Vietnam, global supply is also being tightened due to harvest problems in Brazil. This has caused Robusta futures in London to increase by nearly 70% over the past year, clearly reflecting the supply shortage in the world market.

The main reason is that forecasts of heavy rains next week in Minas Gerais - Brazil's largest Arabica producing region. This has helped to ease concerns about drought conditions, causing the market to react negatively.
According to Rabobank, the volume of Robusta and Arabica coffee certified by ICE will increase in the coming period. The reason is that coffee prices across many sources have been equal in recent months, boosting the amount of goods entering the ICE reserve system.
Rabobank said the increased supply will put pressure on coffee prices in the coming weeks. Data from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) also showed that speculators are reducing their bullish bets on Arabica, with net long positions falling by 1,782 lots to 37,269 lots.
Coffee exports from Brazil in February were below their five-year monthly average for the first time since December 2023, according to a report from brokerage Marex, suggesting that supplies could tighten in the coming period.
