Impersonating a prison guard to cheat money from inmate's family
After completing his prison term, Tuan called his cellmate's wife, claiming to be a prison officer, to trick her into spending money.
On the afternoon of December 19, information from the Ea H'leo District Police (Dak Lak Province) said that they had prosecuted and temporarily detained Dang Thanh Tuan (born in 1989, residing in Duc Linh District, Binh Thuan Province) to investigate the act of fraud and appropriation of money from a fellow prisoner's family.

Previously, Tuan had two previous convictions for receiving property obtained through criminal acts and intentionally causing injury. While serving his sentence at Gia Trung Prison (Gia Lai Province), Tuan became acquainted with Ly Huu Trung (born in 1986, residing in Ea Hiao Commune, Ea H'leo District, Dak Lak Province).
Because of their close relationship, Trung gave Tuan the phone number of his wife, Ban Thi Hue Na, to facilitate contact after his prison term ended. At the end of August 2017, Tuan finished his sentence and went to Ho Chi Minh City to work as a construction worker.
On November 18, Tuan, in an attempt to steal Ms. Na’s money, called her, pretending to be a prison officer and telling her that her husband was in prison but had injured someone and would have his sentence increased. If he wanted to avoid having his sentence increased, he would have to give him 13 million VND.
With this trick, Tuan defrauded and appropriated Ms. Na's money for personal use.
