Some farmers are taking risks by buying smuggled piglets to raise for Tet, despite the high risk of disease due to unknown origins and lack of quarantine.

Mr. Nguyen Kim Doan, Vice President of the Dong Nai Livestock Association, called on the authorities to strengthen control of smuggled piglets to protect the domestic livestock industry from disease. The Dong Nai Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department is implementing disinfection measures at markets and areas at high risk of disease.

To raise livestock sustainably, efforts are needed from both authorities and farmers to comply with disease prevention rules, avoid using piglets of unknown origin, especially to prevent African swine fever.
