According to the latest report from Ptexim, in Dak Nong – a key pepper growing area in Vietnam, harvesting is going strong. However, many farmers are still holding on to their products, causing limited supply. In Dak Lak, the second largest producing area, the harvest season is expected to start in the next 2-3 weeks, raising concerns about short-term supply.
Competition from other crops such as coffee and durian continues to discourage farmers from selling pepper. They also tend to store their products at home instead of sending them to agents as before. This makes trading in the market more limited than in previous years.
However, with the harvest in Dak Nong accelerating and Dak Lak preparing for the season, supply is expected to be more abundant in the coming time. If demand from the international market does not improve, pepper prices may come under downward pressure in the coming weeks.
