We arrived when Mr. Nguyen Hong Ngan - the owner of a farm in Dong Vinh was preparing to transport eggs to the markets to find wholesale buyers. Mr. Ngan said that after Tet, egg prices dropped sharply, to 1,200 - 1,400 VND/egg while before Tet it was 2,200 - 2,500 VND/egg. My family has 17,000 laying hens, each day there are 12,000 - 13,000 eggs. With the current egg prices, if we calculate the cost of feed, initial investment, labor... then we are at a loss.
"Each livestock farm invests 1.5 - 3 billion VND. If this situation continues, some farms will have to stop operating," Mr. Ngan shared.
Nearby, Ms. Huyen's farm has 3,000 laying hens and 5,000 meat chickens. Since Tet, eggs have been difficult to sell and are cheap, so there are still over 9,000 eggs left. There are thousands of eggs every day, while the farm has no warehouse, so if they are not sold in time, they will spoil. Therefore, even though the price is cheap, they have to be sold.

Mr. Vo Van Du in Dong Vinh Ward, Vinh City - owner of a chicken farm said that for nearly a month now, egg prices have dropped sharply. If the peak price of farm chicken eggs was 22,000 VND/dozen, now it is only 12,000 - 13,000 VND/dozen. The price has dropped but it is still very difficult to sell, we have thousands of eggs in stock.

Vinh City currently has a total flock of over 350,000 chickens, of which, Dong Vinh Ward alone has 7 chicken farms with over 10,000 laying hens. The current output of the farms is traditional markets in the province, restaurants, supermarkets and factories.
Currently, not only chicken eggs, other poultry eggs such as duck eggs and quail eggs are also decreasing.
Regarding the reason for the drop in poultry egg prices, according to farm owners, it is because at this time food factories are temporarily shutting down or reducing capacity, so purchasing power has decreased sharply. In addition, it is not hot at this time, so shops that use chicken eggs and quail eggs also consume less, so egg products are difficult to sell and prices have dropped.
