According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 10:00 on October 3, Vietnam time, was 3,849.42 USD/ounce. Today's gold price decreased by 8.93 USD/ounce compared to yesterday. Converted according to the USD exchange rate at Vietcombank (26,420 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 122.8 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of gold bars is 15 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.
The decline comes after gold prices have been hitting record highs in recent times. However, strong profit-taking has pushed gold prices down sharply today, marking a very volatile trading session.
The world gold price is still under pressure to adjust down in the short term, but its safe-haven status helps gold maintain its appeal. If the US government shutdown crisis escalates, the gold price may bounce back.
Weak US employment figures have led markets to believe the Fed will continue to cut interest rates. Low interest rates and a weaker dollar are factors that usually push gold prices up.
According to a new forecast by Goldman Sachs, gold prices could increase by 6% in the second quarter of 2026, towards a record high of $4,000 per ounce, much higher than the $3,772 per ounce recorded at the end of September.
Analysts say gold buyers fall into two groups. The first group is made up of central banks, ETFs and speculators, who buy gold continuously, regardless of price. The second group is made up of opportunistic buyers, mainly in emerging markets, who usually only participate when the price is right, creating balance in the market.
Since Russia froze its foreign exchange reserves in 2022, emerging market central banks have accelerated their gold purchases fivefold, a trend that is expected to continue for at least the next three years, as their holdings remain low compared to developed countries.
