A large amount of water flowing from upstream due to prolonged heavy rains at the end of July caused serious landslides on both sides of the stream. The Nam Tip River swept away the entire vegetable garden, eating deep into the foundation of the project. Overnight, most of the row of houses was swept into the stream. Local authorities and border guards were only able to evacuate some tables, chairs, and household items. Photo: Thanh Cuong

Principal of Muong Ai Primary School, Le Quynh Luu said: "This dormitory is the residence of 15 staff and teachers, including 3 teachers from remote villages 5km from the school. When the row of houses collapsed, these teachers lost their place to live. For now, we will arrange for 3-4 teachers to live in a temporary room. Some teachers have to go out and rent houses from local people to live." Photo: Thanh Cuong
