Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ly's family in village 3, Hoi Son commune (Anh Son) has 2 sao of land, which every year in the summer-autumn crop must be left fallow due to lack of irrigation water. For the past two years, her family has converted this entire area to grow mung beans. According to Mrs. Ly, mung beans do not require much care, the growing season only lasts more than 2 months, and are suitable for dry weather, the investment cost is also less, but the yield is high, the seeds are large and firm.
With an area of 2 sao of green beans, since the beginning of the season, her family has harvested more than 150 kg of beans. As they are harvested, they are dried in the hot sun, making them easy to sell. With the price of green beans fluctuating from 30,000 - 35,000 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, her family earns a profit of more than 5 million VND. She said,The advantage of green bean plants is that after harvesting ripe fruit, you can harvest 2-3 more crops.

Ms. Hoang Thi Huong in village 3, Hoi Son commune is also harvesting the second crop of green beans, sharing: This summer-autumn crop, her family has converted 3 sao of land without water control to grow green beans. As a result, the first crop the family has harvested more than 1 quintal of green beans. "This type of plant not only provides income during the drought season but also helps farmers utilize waste products for livestock farming, so it brings many benefits to farmers," Ms. Huong happily said.
Mr. Nguyen Van Quyet - Vice Chairman of Hoi Son Commune People's Committee said: In recent years, due to the impact of climate change, converting land areas without proactive irrigation to planting some drought-resistant crops, but still bringing high economic efficiency, is a solution that Hoi Son Commune People's Committee is interested in. From there, the commune has selected green bean varieties for production. The whole commune currently has 15 hectares mainly planted on alluvial land and land. With a short growing time, if applying science and technology, green bean plants can reach a yield of 1.5 quintals/sao. Moreover, green bean products have a stable market, so the conversion to growing green beans in the local summer-autumn crop is considered suitable for weather and market factors, partly solving the economic problem during the drought period.

In the whole Anh Son district in the summer-autumn crop this year, there are 125 hectares of beans, mainly green beans, grown in Duc Son, Hoi Son, Lang Son, and Tao Son communes. Although the weather this year is complicated, with prolonged and severe drought, the green bean yield is quite stable, reaching 1 - 1.5 quintals/sao. With the current market price of green beans, it is estimated that 1 hectare of green beans after deducting costs will yield a profit of about 50 - 60 million VND/crop. Moreover, after harvesting green beans, people can plow over the crop, take the stems as green manure to improve the soil or as animal feed./.
