Coach Huu Thang removed Nghiem Xuan Tu from the Vietnam team

Quang Ninh player's dream of playing for the national team for the first time was shattered after being injured in the second leg of the National Cup final against Hanoi T&T yesterday, September 29.

Nghiem Xuan Tu needs about three weeks to recover from his injury.

“Coach Nguyen Huu Thang has received a report on Nghiem Xuan Tu’s injury. He had no choice but to exclude this player from the team gathering to prepare for the AFF Cup 2016. This is truly regrettable.”

Xuan Tu suffered an injury in the second leg of the National Cup final between Hanoi T&T and Quang Ninh on the afternoon of September 29. In an attempt to cross the ball, the midfielder of the mining team rushed out of bounds, resulting in a kneecap injury that required three weeks of treatment.

“Playing for the Vietnamese national team was my lifelong dream. That dream had just come true and then suddenly vanished. There are no words to describe my regret. But I do not regret my efforts in the situation that led to the injury. That was the last match of the season, I wanted to play my best to help Quang Ninh win the title. This time I did not play for the national team, but I will try again to have the opportunity next time,” Nghiem Xuan Tu confided.

From an amateur player, Tu rose to play professionally, entered the candidate list of the Victory Cup and was called up to the Vietnam national team.

Nghiem Xuan Tu was originally a amateur football player. In 2013, he was unexpectedly brought to Thanh Hoa by coach Mai Duc Chung for a trial. After two seasons of dedication to the Thanh team, the player nicknamed Tu "Horse" joined Quang Ninh. This season, he played outstandingly, helping the mining team win the National Cup and finish fourth in the V-League.

"Xuan Tu played very impressively. In every match of Quang Ninh, his wing caused many difficulties for the opponent. In particular, this player is always full of desire," Coach Huu Thang explained when deciding to call him up.Xuan Tu joined the Vietnam team to prepare for the AFF Cup 2016.
