Hoang Mai rectifies African swine fever prevention work
(Baonghean.vn) - After receiving feedback from Nghe An Newspaper about the situation of quarantine checkpoints being abandoned, checkpoints without on-duty forces, allowing people to easily transport pigs through epidemic areas, the leaders of Hoang Mai town held a meeting to learn from experience and direct communes and wards to strengthen the prevention of African swine fever.
Continuously over the past few days, officers of the Economic Department, officers of the town's Veterinary Station, and officers of communes and wards have organized surprise inspections and promptly corrected quarantine work in localities.
At the quarantine checkpoint on Road 3, Quynh Di Ward, Hoang Mai Town, on the morning of June 2, there were always 3-5 people on duty. The forces mobilized in Quynh Di Ward included civil defense, military and police of the ward.
At the quarantine point, when vehicles pass by, the force signals them to stop and slow down to spray disinfectant. The disinfectant lime line is also regularly replenished after each time a vehicle passes by, causing a loss.

Other quarantine checkpoints in Quynh Thien ward, Quynh Phuong ward and Quynh Lien commune have 1-3 people assigned to be on duty. The number of vehicles passing through points such as Quynh Di, Quynh Thien and Quynh Phuong is quite high, while other points recorded not many vehicles passing through.

Trucks carrying pigs easily 'slip through' quarantine checkpoint in Hoang Mai town
(Baonghean.vn) - The question is why a truck carrying pigs was not checked for documents at the two previous quarantine checkpoints, but had to go to the third quarantine checkpoint before being stopped by authorities to have its documents checked.
The locality has 4 pigs infected with African swine fever that have been destroyed. The implementation of preventive measures has also been strictly directed by the Commune People's Committee. At the quarantine checkpoints, we take turns to be on duty according to regulations, there is no situation of negligence or abandonment of the checkpoints.
Up to now, African swine fever has appeared in 5/10 wards and communes in Hoang Mai town including: Quynh Thien, Quynh Xuan, Mai Hung, Quynh Di and Quynh Lien. The number of infected pigs that have been destroyed is 101 pigs with a total weight of over 7 tons.

Many localities have proactively purchased lime powder and distributed it to households raising livestock to prevent the epidemic. In Quynh Di Ward, Mr. Van Huy Thang - Chairman of the Ward People's Committee said that 2 tons of lime powder had been provided to the quarantine checkpoint and 100% of households. Although the number of pigs raised in the ward is less than 400 and is mainly raised by small households, with its location as a central area, connecting with communes and wards, the locality pays great attention to epidemic prevention.
Faced with the complicated developments of African swine fever, Hoang Mai town has implemented many synchronous solutions to cope with the epidemic. In particular, quarantine in localities in the epidemic area and neighboring areas has been strengthened. The town has directed communes and wards to set up 11 quarantine stations, mobilizing local forces to be on duty 24/7.

After receiving feedback on the empty checkpoints, allowing vehicles to transport pigs easily through the epidemic area, Quynh Thien ward has now also overcome the above situation, mobilizing functional forces to be on duty at the checkpoints. Photo: Van Nguyen |
In the first phase, 13 tons of lime powder and 300 liters of chemicals were provided to localities so that they could organize disinfection according to regulations. At quarantine checkpoints, lime and chemicals are always fully provided for forces to carry out disinfection when vehicles pass through. The town is also proposing to the province to provide an additional 20 tons of lime powder and 200 liters of chemicals to supply to wards and communes.
Along with rectifying the situation of some localities being subjective and negligent in quarantine work, the People's Committee of Hoang Mai town will resolutely handle the heads of communes and wards if the above situation continues./.
