Vietnamese students ranked 8th in world science
According to the PISA results announced today, Vietnam ranked 8th in Science, 21st in Mathematics, and 30th in Reading. Singapore ranked first in the world in all three categories.
Yesterday (December 6), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) announced the results of the international student assessment program PISA, which is conducted every three years. The purpose of the program is to test the math, science and reading skills of 15-year-old students around the world. About 540,000 students from 72 countries and territories participated in the 2015 PISA tests.
Vietnamese students ranked 8th in Science, maintaining their position from 3 years ago, above countries with outstanding education systems such as the UK, Australia, and the Netherlands. However, compared to the latest PISA results, Vietnam's Math ranking dropped from 17th to 21st (equal to New Zealand), and Reading ranking dropped from 19th to 30th (equal to the Czech Republic and Croatia).

Singapore ranks first in the world in Mathematics, Science and Reading. Previously, according to the TIMSS international assessment program for Mathematics and Science for students aged 9-10, 13-14, Singapore was also the highest ranked country.
Countries with high results in the 2015 OECD PISA are Japan, Estonia, Finland and Canada. Many East Asian countries have won the world's admiration for their good positions in the learning rankings, including China and South Korea.

According to the OECD, while education spending per primary and secondary student has increased by almost 20% since 2006, only 12 of the 72 countries and economies assessed by the PISA program showed improved science performance over this period.
“A decade of scientific breakthroughs has failed to impact science in schools,” said OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría.
