More than 1,000 meters of sea dike in Quynh Luu are at risk of breaking.
(Baonghean.vn) - Through inspection, the Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention of Quynh Luu district (Nghe An) determined that more than 1,000 meters of river and sea dykes were damaged and eroded, at risk of breaking during the rainy season.
Through field inspection and comparison with the draft flood prevention plan for 2018 in Quynh Luu, it shows that: The Thai River dike section through Quynh Hung commune is more than 2 km long and is made entirely of soil. Many sections on the North bank of Quynh Hung commune have been silted up, leading to landslides on the South bank of Quynh Dien commune. There are many points at risk of landslides if the water level rises.
The district has requested Quynh Hung commune to develop a specific and realistic plan to deal with possible dike landslides.

Particularly for the sea dike section in Quynh Tho commune, storm No. 10 in 2017 when the sea waves were more than 2 meters high rose to only 50 centimeters from the dike bank, threatening the risk of the dike breaking. However, thanks to the timely mobilization of dike protection forces and means, the dike was kept safe. This year, if there is no thoughtful plan, a similar risk will occur.
The Quynh Long sea dyke project has been invested in upgrading the embankment with solid cement. However, in the 2017 stormy season, due to the location of the dyke close to the residential area, deep sea level, and high waves, there were 5 landslides with a length of 250m, directly affecting the hamlets living near the sea, almost completely isolating human means of transport. Before this year's stormy season, the district requested the locality to survey the current situation, develop a natural disaster prevention plan, and prepare an evacuation plan.

On the Mai Giang River through Quynh Bang commune, there are 3 key points that were eroded since the 2017 storm season and have not yet been repaired, or have been temporarily repaired, with a length of nearly 1,000m.
The Mai Giang River, which runs through Quynh Bang Commune, is nearly 2 km long and is located in an industrial shrimp farming area. If the landslides are not upgraded or renovated, they will threaten the river dyke with a breach, seriously affecting nearly 100 hectares of aquaculture during the rainy and stormy season.
The district's Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention has given suggestions and requested communes to immediately supplement flood and storm prevention plans to ensure safety before this year's rainy and stormy season.

Thousands of people protect the dike during the storm in Nghe An
(Baonghean.vn)- The storm made landfall, the tide rose, and the waves were nearly 10 meters high, causing many sections of the sea dike in the coastal area of Quynh Luu district (Nghe An) to overflow and be at risk of breaking. Thousands of people are protecting the dike.
