They are orphans, children of ethnic minorities in the highlands and border areas of Nghe An: H'Mong, Thai, Kho Mu, Dan Lai,... with especially difficult circumstances but have risen up to study well.
Each child has different difficult circumstances. Some have parents who divorced and then left their hometown to work far away, living with elderly grandparents with no place to rely on. Some have parents or one of them has died, leaving them helpless. Some have parents who are seriously ill and no longer able to work. Their living conditions and circumstances do not allow them to have enough food or clothes to wear, so they do not have the means to take care of them and have regular health check-ups.
