According to records, the operation of the online ticket sales system and at stations, ticket sales points and agents on October 1st was normal. As of 2:00 p.m., 72,399 seats had been successfully booked online, and 21,037 tickets had been issued. The Saigon Railway Transport Branch (under Saigon Railway Transport Joint Stock Company) had issued 3,350 queue numbers via SMS (the plan is to sell 1,000 numbers per day). Along with that, the security and order situation at the stations was ensured.
At Saigon station, from 7am there were hundreds of people waiting at the station to buy train tickets directly. Ms. Luong Thu Thuy, (32 years old, from Quang Ngai), said she arrived at the station from around 6am but because the queue number was more than 500, she had to wait. Ms. Thuy said that the train ticket price for Tet this year is too high (traveling on the 7th day of Tet from Dieu Tri to Saigon, an air-conditioned sleeper ticket costs more than 1.2 million VND/ticket).
Similarly, according to the response of Mr. Le Hung Anh (from Quang Nam), the air-conditioned hard sleeper ticket on January 20, 2017 (the 24th day of Tet from Ho Chi Minh City to Quang Nam) cost more than 1.6 million VND, while on normal days it was less than 70,000 VND - more than double. Meanwhile, some passengers said that some routes to the Central region such as Quy Nhon, Quang Ngai, Da Nang... had no tickets left during peak days (24th - 28th of Tet).
According to a representative of FPT Company - the unit that cooperated with Saigon Railway Station to sell tickets for the 2017 Lunar New Year, "The number of customers booking tickets online on the morning of October 1 was quite high, at one point reaching more than 7,000 people accessing the website but there was no network congestion. At one point, in just the first 7 minutes of opening for sale, more than 10,000 people booked tickets for the Lunar New Year on the website dsvn.vn but the system operated normally, without any problems."
