(Baonghean) - Lam Dong is one of the leading provinces in the country in developing high-tech agriculture (CNC). The success story of the land of thousands of flowers is a valuable experience for Nghe An to successfully implement the goal of comprehensively developing the agricultural sector in a modern, sustainable, and competitive direction based on the foundation of CNC commodity agriculture.

Famous children of the homeland

When mentioning Lam Dong, talking about Da Lat, we all think of the land of temperate agricultural products in the middle of the tropics. With the greatest resource being climate, along with appropriate policies, Lam Dong agriculture has made great strides in applying science and technology to production. Concerned about a developed and highly effective Nghe An agriculture, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Xuan Duong and the provincial working delegation directly surveyed this locality.

On a misty morning in Da Lat, Mr. Tran Duc Quang - Chairman of the Board of Directors, Director of Xuan Huong Cooperative located in Ward 9, Da Lat City happily welcomed the delegation from his hometown. Originally from Yen Son, Do Luong, the man in his sixties has been leading a highly effective agricultural cooperative since 2003.

On an area of 7 hectares with 25 member households, Xuan Huong Cooperative is one of the first pilot units of Lam Dong province to be supported by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Dong province to implement the Agricultural Competitiveness Project to build a pilot model of applying CNC agriculture since 2004. Currently, the entire area of the cooperative is enclosed by greenhouses to grow vegetables on clean soil. "The cooperative orients vegetable varieties to grow and consume products for members. The products are currently consumed in the markets of Hanoi, Quang Binh, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Dak Nong, Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City, Metro and Big C supermarkets. Our revenue in 2016 reached 7.2 billion VND" - Mr. Quang shared; at the same time happily said that he is ready to support the province to transfer scientific and technical cultivation.

Another son of Nghe An who is also very famous in the field of CNC agriculture in the land of thousands of flowers is Mr. Tran Huy Duong - owner of Lang Biang Farm Company Limited located in Ward 9, Da Lat City. On the rolling hills of the land of thousands of flowers, with his hands, brains, and will, he and his wife have built a pioneering enterprise in applying CNC in production.

The company produces clean flowers, strawberries, potatoes and exploits agricultural tourism; at the same time, it provides consulting services in the field of CNC agriculture with a revenue of 40-50 billion VND/year. "We have applied greenhouse technology, computer-controlled drip irrigation systems, managed by computer software, and used biological measures to manage pests" - the man from Kim Lien, Nam Dan shared: "We are also ready to support the province in terms of technology and technology transfer".

Lam Dong has an area of high-tech agriculture reaching 50,000 hectares, accounting for 17% of the cultivated area; the average revenue on the agricultural land area of the whole province reaches 150 million/ha. Of which, the area of high-tech vegetables reaches 400-500 million VND/ha/year, hydroponic vegetables in particular reach 8-9 billion VND/ha/year; flowers reach 800 million - 1.2 billion VND/ha/year, high-quality tea reaches 250 million VND/ha/year; coffee reaches 240 million VND/ha/year.

Chairman Nguyen Xuan Duong also visited Kim Bang Cultivation and Trading Company in Ward 7, Da Lat City, founded by an American-Vietnamese couple with a deep love for Da Lat. On an area of 7 hectares, including 5 hectares of greenhouses, Kim Bang Company grows vegetables both in soil and hydroponics.

When Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Xuan Duong proposed to support Nghe An province in developing high-tech agriculture, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue, the company owner with more than 20 years of experience in growing vegetables, expressed her willingness to accompany the province, especially in training agricultural students for Nghe An if the province has a need.

Experience from Lam Dong

At the working session on the afternoon of October 5, Lam Dong province leaders shared experiences in developing CNC-applied agriculture. In particular, the province clearly identified that the implementation is carried out by enterprises, cooperatives, cooperative groups, and farming households. The State only supports the contents that the above subjects encounter difficulties such as: model building, technology transfer, trade promotion, etc.

The planning work is implemented to ensure it is suitable for ecological conditions and to promote the competitive advantages of each locality. With that vision, Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Pham S said that the province has accumulated land in the form of planning zones and regions linking production between people and businesses. This is a different approach compared to many localities, so it has attracted many businesses to invest in agriculture, especially 77 FDI enterprises with a total capital of more than 266.3 million USD.

On the other hand, Lam Dong is also very interested in building product brands. Currently, this locality has 19 agricultural products recognized with certified trademarks and 8 enterprises recognized as CNC agricultural enterprises; completed the construction and registration of the brand "Da Lat, a miracle crystallization from the good land" including main products: vegetables, flowers, Arabica coffee and agricultural tourism.

There are mechanisms and investors, but the most important issue for this locality to successfully apply CNC to agricultural production is human resources. Lam Dong trains in 3 groups: managers, businesses and farmers. "Farmers are sent for training domestically and abroad in Korea, Japan, and Thailand. Each time, we send 18-20 farmers" - Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Pham S said, at the same time emphasizing the motto of organizing production: taking businesses as the core, taking farmers as the subject, taking science and technology as the key.

Impressed by the successes of Lam Dong's agricultural sector, Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Xuan Duong affirmed Nghe An's strong determination in developing high-tech agriculture; awakening the potential and advantages of land, soil... The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized that Nghe An currently has a number of planning orientations for developing CNC agricultural zones for the period up to 2020, with the orientation to 2030 being to develop 20-25 CNC concentrated agricultural production zones, with a total area of about 8,000-10,000 hectares with key crops and livestock. By 2020, a CNC agricultural zone will be formed in Nghia Dan, with a scale of 200 hectares to organize production and attract businesses to invest.

However, in reality, there are many difficulties due to the impact of natural conditions, climate and fragmented land, there are not many investors with strong potential; human resources are still lacking... Therefore, from the practical experiences from Lam Dong, the similarities in potential and determination of Nghe An province and the strong commitment of Lam Dong province's leaders in supporting Nghe An to achieve the above goal, we believe that in the near future, the province's agriculture will develop comprehensively in a modern, sustainable direction, with the ability to compete based on the foundation of high-tech commodity production agriculture.
